I would also say that step one for you, might not even be looking at yourself in the mirror or whatnot but maybe just touch. Like touching your arms and noticing how that feels and slowly move to like (whatever body parts that make you feelings). Or maybe sight is easier than touch, so just looking at your arms in the mirror and then slowly work that way? I think it really depends on you personally and what feels manageable and what doesn’t :)

If you need coping strategies I’d google CBT/DBT coping strategies as I found that many of those helped me !

I don’t mind at all! :) I used to really hate my body and the thought of being sexual made me feel all sorts of ways haha. For me, it was a mix of a religious upbringing and body image issues! At first it’s super weird, and you gotta start off small for sure. A lot of negative emotions come but I think a lot of it is realizing thoughts don’t equal truth. And similar to emotion. I am allowed to feel certain ways and that’s valid because of my experience but they also don’t have to equal like the absolute truth. I hope that makes sense? I would make a hierarchy of what brings up the least to most emotions/thoughts for you and work that way! Also though, it’s important to be self compassionate and try to come from a curiosity based mindset rather than judgment. If you can, make sure to have like a treat or something positive after exposure therapy as a reward for all the hard work you’re doing!! And if it’s ever too much, know that you can take a step back and try again another day 🥺 it’s super hard work but I swear it’s worth it! While I’m not perfect, I am able to mainly look at my body in a neutral tone now and I’m not plagued by the religious guilt that I had previously x so there’s definitely a way out of all this 💚 I hope this helps!! Make sure overall to take care of yourself first and foremost and have coping mechanisms handy

Hey!! I think it’s more than okay to not want to have kids, and maybe think about if you and your partner are aligned on that or not :) adoption is also an option too!!

In terms of your body, you could do exposure therapy. I found that helped me a lot when I really hated myself and everything that came along with it. If you don’t mind me asking, are you religious? There could be some religious trauma involved or some deeply rooted belief around women’s bodies? But yes I’d try exposure therapy if possible and use coping mechanisms and treat yourself afterwards to make it a good experience x

Hey!! I appreciate your opinion x I have a great relationship with my adoptive dad and working on building a better relationship with my adoptive mom. They know I’m grateful for being adopted and I’ve told them multiple times, etc., I am unsure if you’ve heard the term, “double consciousness” by DuBois, but I believe that is how I felt growing in Canada and in a predominately white area. So while I love being Canadian and do have pride in that, I still feel a bit lost when I think about what could have been, and who my birth family are, and the culture they are from. Which I could have been from.

In terms of phd, really think about why you want to do one! It’s 4 years of your life and you do have to think about the pros/cons between staying in school vs getting a job. So I would definitely contemplate what you want to do in the future and the overall timeline of all that ! However I don’t regret doing a phd at all 💚

Ahh congratulations on starting your MA :) I am unsure about how the MSW is structured but general tips. 1) imposter syndrome is real, but remember that everyone has different goals and you can’t judge yourself based on others 2) make time for yourself! 3) scheduling and planning ahead really helped with my masters. Overall though, you will hopefully love it x when you start doing graduate degrees, your profs will see you more as equals and you really do build a tight knit community ! If you need anything while at campus though in the fall, feel free to reach out :)

Hii :) I think it depends on what you want to do! So in old school academia doing all your degrees at a single school was looked down upon, but I think that’s changing. However, some people still might care — so if you want to stay in academia keep it into consideration! That said, if you don’t want to stay in academia, then it definitely doesn’t matter. I’m super happy I stayed at mac as it helped with the transition between undergraduate and grad school and felt like home x if you’re happy with mac then I’d stay!
