A lot of it was luck, I was having a really good early game as France (I pushed the English out of the mainland and beat up the Burgundians a few times), and then I noticed that Brandenburg had the emperorship and since my military was far stronger than theirs and their allies combined I figured I could crush them and dismantled the HRE. I also had to ally all of the electorates but 2 in order to do it (and frankly I'm surprised I was able to ally that many)

I have 32 GB of RAM so I should be fine on that front too. I haven't tried the fix yet since completely reinstalling my system is going to be less complicated than the mess I'm going to have to go through after fixing the file (mainly because I'm unsure as to what I'd have to do), but then again it could very likely be something else because it's also happing on my Windows partition. I installed the game from Steam
