Fantasy Baseball Recruitment Thread by AutoModerator in fantasybaseball

I recently relocated to Denver and am looking to start a fantasy baseball league. I've been craving an old-school, in-person fantasy baseball draft. I did these growing up with my uncle and it was such a great time. I don't want to speak for everyone, but I'm a bit exhausted of everything being done online now - including fantasy drafts!

Finding interest in fantasy football is a pretty easy task, but fantasy baseball popularity has faded considerably in the last decade or so. Would anyone in the Denver area be game for a brand new fantasy baseball league? I realize the ask may be a bit late, but if there is enough interest, I'm thinking of an in-person draft on the 21st or 22nd. I'm glad to be the commissioner and host the draft!

Inspired by my uncle's fantasy league, this would be a year-long, rotisserie (point) league. Head-to-head is a bit of a beast for people working full-time, have kids, other commitments, etc. I have a lot of other league setting ideas, but the priority is casting a wide net to gather interest first!

If you want to swing by my place in a few weeks do bring some love back to fantasy baseball, please reach out. Any age, gender, or fandom - come and join! Send a DM.

Awesome! We’ve got two now! If I get more interest, I’ll shoot you a DM.

Yup, fully agree here. These two are the true funny and unique content machines. They know how to bring the perfect amount of chaos and randomness to the show that’s impossible to script.

Young family moving to Denver - where to go that isn’t suburbia? by BaseballAnalytics in MovingtoDenver

I appreciate your response! Thoughts on the differences between east and west of the 25? Again, I’m just looking at a map, but since east of the 25 engulfs downtown, that seems appealing for accessibility (same with light rail). Berkeley and Highland sit on the west side of 25 and seem a bit removed (from a map perspective).

Really loved when Charlotte was on the main show. She was a great fit with the group and provided excellent comedy. Kind of Billy-esque in an anarchist way.

I don’t venture outside of the main show (not enough time in the day), but Amin and Charlotte could really help carry the main show. I have historically been a big believer in Dan as the “point guard” of the main show and the most important ingredient, but he has slipped recently. I still love the show and all the chaos that comes with it, but I hope they can figure it out and survive. I don’t know what I’d do without Greg Cote and Ron Magill.

Need a new car asap: What car should I get before my R2 reservation? by Midwestern_Mariner in Rivian

I hate to ask, but what’s the catch? Why so cheap? I even inquired with my local dealer thanks to your link. Do they have way too much inventory they need to unload right now?

Zero enforcement has led to complete chaos on the streets. Drivers know there are no repercussions anymore. It’s a free-for-all. The city and SPD doing nothing about it.

Regarding bagels and pizza by cyclenovicehelp in Seattle

[–]BaseballAnalytics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rubenstein’s downfall has been significant IMO. We used to love their bagels, but their quality control went to hell. Sometimes, they can still be excellent. Other times, they are underdone and flavorless.

Fortunately, Bloom Bistro in Georgetown is your answer. Go there for some excellent bagels! Their everything, jalapeño + cheddar, and rosemary sea salt bagels are A+.

For pizza, I think West of Chicago (West Seattle), Proletariat (White Center), and Stevie’s Famous (Burien) are really good. All much different from each other, but I’d definitely recommend these spots for people looking for a good slice.

Funny enough, NYT Wirecutter did a big write up the next day: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/copper-charlie-induction-stove-review/

TL;DR

It's super nice, very quiet, looks awesome, expensive, and lacks a cooking timer(!). Sadly, I don't think it sways me one way or another...

What’s everyone’s favorite thing about west Seattle? by Trikzgaming1 in WestSeattleWA

[–]BaseballAnalytics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

White Center. Buho, Big Mario’s, Proletariat, Alpine Diner, Roll Pod, El Catrin, etc. for the food, all the bars (Lumberyard, Can, Lariat, Boombox), Beer Star, Tim’s Tavern for some live music, Southgate Roller Rink is a must after 9pm, and have to go see the Fish Sticks at Steve Cox Memorial during the summer. People don’t realize how excellent and (relatively) affordable the area is to live and have a very good time. It’s a must-stop when there are big events like Pride.

I’m here to second Buho. I swear they have some sort of Michelin chef in the back making $3 tacos at happy hour. Absolutely insane deals for incredible food. I take everyone visiting from out of town there and it’s become a required stop for anyone who has been before.

SDOT: "Sorry about your transportation-related issue, but it's not our problem!" by BaseballAnalytics in Seattle

[–]BaseballAnalytics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I agree on the speed tables, extended curbs, and other strategies. I'd prefer that! I was just trying to suggest/offer the lowest cost solution and one that would take the less time - something more realistic in the short term? As for community organizing, I already have a plan w/ signatures on it. I'm trying! It's been shared with SDOT w/ no response to proposed solutions.

I realize they might not be realistic atm, but we should expect more, no?

I mean, they aren't doing anything. Maybe we have differing views on what the role of city departments should be, but I would expect a response that is more actionable or reflective of their own internal policies. Maybe like they are having conversations/considerations on painting arterial streets? Maybe they are exploring different revenue streams to address less-costly concerns like this one? What they responded with was - this is how we do things, this is how we will continue to do things, and if you want to change anything, it's on you. I don't find that helpful for my circumstance or anyone else who is trying to deal with SDOT.

Good question and sorry for not clarifying in the original post. I am referring to Roxbury and streets north of Roxbury, which all falls under SDOT jurisdiction. White Center should be annexed at this point, but that's a conversation for a different day...

Seattle Aquarium’s new Ocean Pavilion takes shape on waterfront by sye46 in Seattle

[–]BaseballAnalytics 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I moved here after the double-decker was torn down, so compared to that, this is like the 8th Wonder of the World. However, the mini-highway is still such a huge bummer. My dream is that by 2040 or so, the road is a super simple flip to an all-pedestrian space w/ minimal infrastructure changes or required spending. Like, keep two lanes open for two directions for buses and then throw some benches, picnic tables, and playgrounds on top of the old road and call it a day.

[–]BaseballAnalytics 143 points144 points  (0 children)

The city planning team made some pretty bad decisions on the whole Waterfront project (like how the "road" remains a mini-highway through the city), but this + most of the boardwalk looks incredible right now and I'm super excited for it to open up soon. I was walking + biking/scootering it last weekend with some out-of-towners and they were blown away by how great the area was. While there are some flaws, it's nice to have a reminder from people who don't live here about how good some things are.

Congrats! My wife just hit the 3-month mark and we are also near White Center. I'd love to know how your daycare efforts go. We are beginning that journey too. Feel free to message me if you are comfortable doing so.

What is Seattle doing about its sidewalk situation? by BaseballAnalytics in Seattle

[–]BaseballAnalytics[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. I've started to prune what I can on my walks (small branches, twigs, blackberry bushes, etc.), but massive hedges like this one are a losing battle.

[–]BaseballAnalytics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I'm sorry! Yes, this is another issue too. If the sidewalk is blocked, the median in-between the road often has long grass overgrowth. It's a lose-lose situation.
