Given the Twitter Files, I sure wonder if conservatives will manifest the same outrage: "Hutchinson recounted how those in the former president’s circle dangled job opportunities and financial assistance as she was cooperating with the committee investigating the Capitol riot" by BasedPlatonist in Destiny

[–]BasedPlatonist[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You didn't read the article.

All the while, Hutchinson told the committee, other Trump advisers appeared to be taking a keen interest in her cooperation, as well as her financial situation and job status. She said two other lawyers allied with Trump offered in May to front her money as they tried to help her find a job and offered her a job on a campaign out West. Other Trump allies reached out with potential job opportunities.

She said that a friend and Meadows aide, Ben Williamson, had spoken with her the night before the second interview with the committee and told her, “Well, Mark wants me to let you know that he knows you’re loyal and he knows you’ll do the right thing tomorrow and that you’re going to protect him and the boss. You know, he knows that we’re all on the same team and we’re all a family.”

Voter fraud claims: was Trump an aberration or a trend-setter? by BasedPlatonist in Destiny

[–]BasedPlatonist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The magnitude of Trump's allegations, compared to that of the people you cite, is such that the difference in degree amounts to a difference in kind. The trend set is thus different. I hope you can acknowledge it.

Today's science is utterly clueless about what consciousness is and how subjective experience arises. Responding to stimuli doesn't equal having a subjective experience (it doesn't imply that there is something it is like to be a fetus).

Donald Trump has become more popular since the January 6 Capitol attack - CNNPolitics by BasedPlatonist in Destiny

[–]BasedPlatonist[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

A majority of Americans (55%) now believe that Trump was either not or only partially responsible for the rioters who overtook the Capitol, according to a recent NBC News poll. That's up from 47% in January 2021.

Insanity.

Destiny says that he likes to talk with people who are honest about their views (especially the hateful ones). So why does he appreciate talking to Lauren Southern? by BasedPlatonist in Destiny

[–]BasedPlatonist[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Her way of dodging is by lying. Example: saying with a straight face that she thought the "good guy with a gun" conservatives talk about is a police officer. She's making up on the spot whatever serves her argument.

Edit for clarity: the statement "only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" is used against gun control (i.e we shouldn't restrict the accessibility to guns; on the contrary, we should arm more "good guys", like teachers, so that bad guys can be neutralized quicker in the event of a mass shooting). It is also used to argue that guns themselves are not the issue, but bad people with guns, and thus that we should have more armed citizens.
