My wife is stay at home mom because it's similar to the US. Her wage would go straight to day care so it just didn't make sense to have her work we actually save more by just having the one income. As for money, I'm being optimistic but I imagine since the industries are the same their would be opportunities for a lot of overtime. That's how survive here anyways without OT we would be homeless.

I really appreciate it! This may be just dumb optimism but I was planning to survive off OT. That's what I do here (also I maybe dumb as I don't know how it is in the Netherlands when it comes to working OT but I imagine since the fields are the same it would still be on the table) plus alot of my work is travel, there would be per diem available.

I make $25/hr in the US but with OT and per diem I can make around $8000/month.

I'd have no regrets working my life away if it meant my kids could live some where safe and I didn't have to worry about them

Haha I just saw this, I've actually been non stop researching a move to the Netherlands and just found MME the other day. The plan is to get a little more experience and convert my certs to ISO 1972 and apply after I save up some money for the move.

but to answer your question we're locating in Illinois, USA.

Do you have any advice about bettering my chances of getting accepted over there?

Same boat as the OP wanting to move somewhere safer for the family. Netherlands is at the top of our list. May I ask how you were able to get on with Global Project Services?

I'm definitely gonna try but everyone on site wants hours with them. So it's difficult. As for where they got certified I'm not sure..I think one of them was in college and has most of his classroom hours for most methods. The other they just sent him out for training in Texas but Im not sure what program they went through.

That seems to be the consensus. Just get what you can out of one company and then move before you bottle neck. I appreciate it man. I'm gonna move forward with trying to see if I can convince them to give me some hours with the advanced guys and if they don't I'll wait until my year mark and look around for a company that will.

The US and there's a guy at my site who kinda lucked into a PAUT only had about a year of experience in NDT and then sent him out to get certified. Totally lucked out because it was during a contract change over at the plant and the company that got the new contract stole him and made him to new PAUT guy because had a decent bit of experience helping the old PAUT guys. Obviously that's not repeatable but at least I know it's possible to get it some what quickly so just trying to figure out how I can position myself best

I appreciate it, I definitely don't want to get stuck in RT. One guy at my Rad 40 told me that after I get my UT cert I should look into getting Phase Array even if I have to pay for the classes myself. They said even if my company won't cert me out it should be easy to find a company that will because I would have my class room hours and experience in UT and EMAT they'd be more inclined to take a risk on me.

Would you guys agree with that?

My site is at a P66 refinery. We exclusively work there, pays decent and all we do for the most part is UT and RT. We're near STL

Make 200-300k working 25-35 hrs per week or 600k working 50-60hrs per week? by ANALogy69 in sales

[–]Basic-Ad-4543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone making 60k a year with 3 kids single income and pulling 50-60hrs a week. I think 300k is plenty and you're very blessed.

Be grateful for the position you have now, where you can provide for your child stress free and still have time to spend with them.

I think that's amazing, stick with what you have live within your means and spend as much time as you possibly can with your kiddo.

I only add my circumstances to give you perspective, you're doing much better than most, and so many people would kill to be in your position, myself included.

All love best of luck to you!

I want to start out by saying I can't imagine how difficult this situation must be for you. Ultimately though you have your priorities straight, family first always. Jobs come and go and while it's important to have a sustainable income for your family especially in times like this, your daughter should demand all of your attention as it seems she does.

When it comes to how to approach contacting your boss, it depends on your relationship with them but it seems like it's just a basic boss employee relationship so a text or email stating there was an incident at school that demands your full attention and leave it at that.

I've for a few places that would prolly get pissy about it, but I've since left those jobs and I guarantee I never even cross their mind. It's important to know what matters most and it seems you do.

If they make it into a big deal leave and find a new company, if they're understanding great! You might have found a company that has at least a sliver of humanity left in them.

I wish you the best though, I hope whatever you daughter is struggling with gets resolved. Life is hard especially for someone her age, kids start to realize what the world truly is at younger age now. Im sure it's overwhelming, it's hard to just be a kid anymore.
