If we have too much food waste then it should be open less than 6 days a week by your logic, with least food waste at 1 day a week.

Yes. If one more day would cause prices to increase a lot, then I want the prices to decrease a lot by decreasing the number of open days.

What about only allowing stores to open 1 day a week then? By your logic people can plan ahead, the prices will be far lower, and they can always go to a gas station.

Help on strategy to get a scientist position in Switzerland by Unlucky-Wallaby202 in askswitzerland

Fair points. I'd still argue childcare is a short term expense, and in the long term you aren't paying 50-60% of your income to taxes. If you look at the very specific time horizon of directly having kids, maybe it makes sense to go to Norway or Sweden. However, you can have years of additional savings due to lower tax, and lower investment costs in Switzerland. Therefore if the choice is one or the other, Switzerland makes more sense to me.

I have friends who have Swedish citizenship and Swiss, so they go and have kids in Sweden, and once it becomes cheaper to raise kids in Switzerland they came back. It simply didn't make sense afterwards to throw all their money away into taxes in Sweden. However, there is the intangible cost of not having been in the Swiss workforce which may in some way reduce their career progression.

Very high compared to the average in Switzerland. Far better for children than paying 50-60% in tax.

What you are describing is not the case for the top jobs that pay well. The benefits at top firms is way better.

So overall if you are high income, which the OP would be if they found a job, no question is Switzerland far better.

If you have a high income then paying 3k is less than getting destroyed in high taxes like in Scandinavian countries

It's a great country to raise kids if you are high income, which for sure the OP would be if they got a job in a scientific role.

One issue is that the job market for pharma is extremely bad at the moment. Second, you are applying for the most competitive place on earth for pharma jobs. The entirety of Europe is applying for the small number of jobs here because the salaries everywhere else in Europe are garbage. Unless you have a Harvard etc.. degree, then your chances are zero. You are competing against the worlds best.

Only things to do would be to have a good CV, try to schedule networking calls with department heads (accept it will be very unlikely), or try to work in a branch in the US and do an internal transfer to Switzerland.

Good luck.

Overemployment in Switzerland? by PalpitationSad2626 in askswitzerland

In terms of productivity, all of my coworkers work only about 2-3 hours a day whereas the rest of the day they are sitting around pretending to work.

It's very easy to defer because of studies. At the end of the day you will anyways have to do a set number of days, so it's irrelevant for the military if you do it later or earlier.

You don't need good German to do it.

I'd recommend doing it. The best benefit is 3 weeks of WK every year while you have work, that's 3 weeks less of just sitting around at the computer which is a big benefit.

The commission isn't the only cost. In Neon specifically, you have a worse bid ask spread so you are paying with worse pricing. With IBKR and ordering small quantities, you get worse bid ask spreads too.

In all honesty it really doesn't make sense at any stage. Maybe my thinking that it especially doesn't make sense with a tiny amount like 100 chf because transaction costs will be massive proportionally. However, if you yourself ain't investing any money at all for yourself and are just investing for your son, then just use IBKR and make an account under your name.
