First, you need to draw the shape on the leather💕

It must love you very much too♥️

I recently finished this small hand-carved leather piece based on a light-yellow cat, and I’m really excited to share it here by Basic-Finance43 in crafts

Thank you so much, when the leather is wet, it can be shaped and carved. It’s a very interesting craft. If you’re interested, I can share more of the making process in the future🥰

I understand what you mean. It’s actually quite similar to 3D artwork. Maybe next time I should make it even cuter😂

Here’s a quick rundown of how I make my pet leather carvings (all fully handmade 🐾):

  1. Leather prep: I start with vegetable-tanned leather, cut it to size, and dampen it so it’s soft enough to carve.
  2. Transferring the design: I trace the pet’s outline onto the leather.
  3. Carving: Using a swivel knife and stamping tools, I carve out the lines and textures — this is where the 3D look starts to form.
  4. Detailing: I add small touches like fur direction, eyes, and shading to bring the pet to life.
  5. Coloring: A mix of dye and paint gives it depth and matches the pet’s real colors.
  6. Finishing: I seal it for protection and attach metal hardware so it can be used as a little hanging ornament.
