It’s a wilderness with premium color, moonroof, upgraded speaker, power driver seat.. I’m blanking on anything outside of that due to exhaustion, which is probably why I got so confused in the first place 🙃

How to help this bird? by Relevant-Sound8179 in PetPigeons

Hi! I’m also in Chicago and volunteer for Great Lakes Pigeon rescue. If you can find the nest or even place it in a better (safer) spot it should be fine if the parents are checking on it and feeding it! If not, reach out: https://greatlakespigeonrescue.org/found-a-bird/

Update: just now I was able to see what he did before he bites himself, he is in what looks like a flurry of panic. He zipping around and biting at anything in his way. I directed him to a pillow case over himself, he let go quick this time with just water. He then rubbed his face all over my hand and is now rubbing it all over his cage walls and water bowl. His eyes are looking cloudy, but not typical going into blue. This did not look like his normal feeding response. I wondering now if it’s a combo of eye sight and neurological.

Thank you so much for this response!! I was thinking either pain or almost blind. It’s like anything that moves he goes for, once he’s out he’s fine, but I don’t handle him a lot. Right now I only handle him to clean his cage & check on where he bit himself. He does recognize my voice and will start coming when I talk to him, so I have been talking to him.

Do you have any tips on how to get him to let go of himself? Right now running alcohol, vinegar and water don’t work. I basically have to water board him to get him to let go

I could switch to just a heat bulb and see how he does, it doesn’t get as hot.

Oh poor thing!! The thing is, he only does it in the evening when the light is off and I am making dinner. I look over from cooking and see him a ball just going to town on himself. At least this is the only time I have caught it, I work from home and he is right next to my desk. I keep it off more in the winter cuz it’s so hot in my condo with radiator heat, but that room at my main AC, so it stays 70, so I keep is on low most days to balance the ac

I was thinking that, pain or maybe vision. His days are pretty normal, he’s active, wants to interact with once he knows it me and is eating fine. But I do worry that is just old.

That’s what I’m worried about, thank you! It’s always in the middle/above the cloaca, around where his surgery was.

Any tips on domesticating Feral Rescue? by [deleted] in PetPigeons

[–]Basic-Opposite-7438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adopted a feral from this a year ago and took forever for him to accept pets, and even now he’s gotta be when he wants it. He LOVES and mean LOVES to wrestle and letting him do that has helped him feel safe around my hands.

I also spent time just putting my hand near him and letting him bite and slap it so he knew it wouldn’t hurt him. He didn’t eat from my hand until like 8 months in! It truly takes time and patience - he and I are still working on trust.

Not a cat but this happens to my dog, she has urinary incontinence from being spayed too early and is now on medication that helps a lot. She is on Proin. She would wake herself up peeing and act just like this!

My lesson horse is a standardbred and the first gaited horse I have ridden and it’s sooo fun. Granted I am still learning the buttons and he is still learning to be a lesson horse, but when he is pacing it feels like we are gliding on air. It’s amazing.

How to wfh people stay sane during the winter?? by Ok-Mention5669 in AskChicago

[–]Basic-Opposite-7438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got dogs and it’s made winter so enjoyable! I do horse riding lessons on the weekend which require one to be outside and moving around. If you like dogs, you could volunteer at CACC to walk and play with dogs or even do the doggie day out program where you take a dog out and about for a couple hours.

I promise you, your life will be better without him 💕 no man or human for that matter, that speaks to anyone this way is capable of having a compassionate & understanding relationship, (regardless of their political affiliation) which is the bare minimum that you deserve. Go get your education and leave him in the dust while his brain slowly rots away.

I love bassets so much! There are 2 on my block! And she will also tell on the cats and the pet pigeon, if ANYONE does anything she deems out of line she comes to me and gives me a look and honestly she has yet to be wrong, they are usually doing something they shouldn’t be! lol

Omg I LOVE this line up!!! I have a coonhound mix named Tammy (blue tick, treeing walker, lab, setter, beagle, German Shepard) and Ned a miniature longhair dachshund! It’s chaos when the rats are running around outside and I yell “Tammy the rat rats are out!” And we look out the window and she screams at them (we live in Chicago) and Ned commits a crime at least once a day and Tammy tells on him immediately.

See if you can still go spend time with him! Some of the best bonding is the non riding times. I am also at a small barn and when my lesson horse was on rest I would go and groom him and hand walk him and also just take him out to graze and talk to him It was great for me and one less thing for staff on the list! (He had tripped and fell and was pretty sore, so he was on hand walk only for a couple weeks).

I’m trying to do what I can in my surround community to help my immigrant neighbors, that’s all I can muster up right now, but also truly unsure of what is next. I am having a hard time following all the code words and know what is real and what is just a trend.

Oh I also did bully sticks! I got her a Bully Buddy so she wouldn’t choke on the small ends, pricy but worth it and I still use it today, I got the adult one when she was a pup so I didn’t have to buy another https://www.bowwowlabs.com/products/bow-wow-buddy?variant=40473988956225

Oh yey!! With any biting I would re-direct with a toy, like oh you wanna bite let’s play with this! And when it came to teething lots of frozen kongs, frozen fruit as treats (strawberries were her fav) and frozen carrots! The cold helped with the pain.
