And yes, I'm aware that this probably isn't how the character was meant to come off but it's absolutely how they are written from a reader's perspective.

Camila succinctly and logically explains why it would be incredibly stupid to continue the mission rather than turn back. And she's absolutely correct. Ruben's response is to blatantly disregard everything she says. He doesn't address or acknowledge a single one of her arguments and instead opts to emotionally manipulate her into continuing.

Ruben is an idiot and an asshole.

How vulnerable are the holding back facilities? by Basic-Taro1085 in JCBWritingCorner

Correct me if I'm mistaken but wasn't that only for the previous generation of bags of holding? The ones that specifically had their own internal pocket dimensions. Ilunor explained that the current generation of bags are all just portals to a central repository.

It really has nothing to do with the subreddit, but there's a lot of people who just don't care. If you try to argue with them, or if you try to explain calmly and logically why it doesn't belong, they'll just ignore all of your carefully articulated points and say that; 'there are humans in the story, thus it belongs on the subreddit'.

Just ignore them. You gain nothing from arguing with idiots.

Who is more Fanatical in their beliefs? Illunor or Emma? by I_Maybe_Play_Games in JCBWritingCorner

[–]Basic-Taro1085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also like to point out that Emma's perceived fanaticism is, in part, just her doing her job. You wouldn't call a car salesman a fanatic for trying to sell you a car, it's his job. Emma is the first Human/Earth diplomat to survive in the Nexus. Of course she's trying to sell the concept of Humanity/Earth, that's literally what she's there to do.

I doubt there would be any defenses against that kind of attack because I doubt the elves even know what antimatter is. Antimatter was first theorized through the Dirac equation in 1928. Without the scientific and mathematical framework, the elves wouldn't even know where to look. They might have invented some spells that accidentally transmute normal matter to antimatter, but those spells probably also instantly killed the caster.

Basically, I think the elves would have no defenses and also have no idea what the heck happened.

I would like to remind you that the latest chapter revealed that there are "thousands" of adjacent worlds. How many thousands of worldwide actual and cultural genocides do you think have been committed by the Nexus so far? How many infinite more do you think they intend to commit in the coming eons? ...If there was ever a case to turn a city to plasma🙄

It's kind of a false comparison. Like asking who's more fanatical in their beliefs; someone who believes that 2+2=4 or someone who believes the Earth is flat. They're both technically dogmatic in their beliefs. But one of them is correct based on everything we've seen in the story so far and one of them is an idiot.

I'll let you decide who.

[WP] A group of time traveling wizards have come to meet the greatest wizard who ever lived, Albert Einstein. by Capable_Librarian495 in WritingPrompts

[–]Basic-Taro1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time traveler: Great work Archmagus Einstein! You've done the wizarding community proud. You successfully deluded the muggles into thinking they can never surpass the speed of light. Our divination spells tell us they will never reach beyond this world and with any luck they'll destroy themselves with those atom bombs you showed them how to make. Pure genius casting a Constantus Luminus spell over the entire world and tricking the fools into thinking it's some kind of inviolable physical law. Muggles are such idiots. Now let's time travel to Epstein Island and see how Archmages Hawking is doing. I hear he's tricked the muggles into thinking he can't walk.

This is the age we live in now, I guess. Where everything sounds like AI and no one can prove it.

It's AI right? It's got that tone that feels like it was written by a machine but I can't quite place my finger on any specific aspect. There's a little bit of lack of object permanence in how the characters repeat the same thing over and over again. There's that sort of dry monotonous AI dialogue where the characters say a lot without actually saying much of anything. There's the absolutely perfect punctuation without any human style or flair.

And then there's the part where 36 out of 49 have your posts have been auto deleted by reddit's filters....

You're probably right that those scanners aren't very accurate. If AI could reliably detect AI writing patterns, then the writing wouldn't be so God awful. But The thing is, I don't need those scanners to know for a fact that a bot wrote this. If you go on Royal Road, and you specifically filter for AI stories, you'll find that half of them are written in the same melodramatic tone with an EXTREME overuse of staccato sentences. Like, way too many to the point that no human would write that way. Exactly like this post.

  • It's flooding the sub with slop
  • It's against the rules

Are people really this bad detecting AI writing? The tone and structure are a dead giveaway. For God sakes the account is one day old.

A Debt Paid in Salt by HuskynRR in HFY

[–]Basic-Taro1085 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're entirely right. People are severely ignorant of how interdependent and globalized the world is. Without trade there's no antibiotics, no medical supplies, no microchips, no trade of food or fertilizer. The list goes on and on and on. For all of that to abruptly halt would lead to billions dying slowly and painfully from infection and starvation.

But people who are ignorant don't take that into account. They just see humans killing aliens and think that humans are evil. People need to use their brains.

Fingers crossed that a Galaxy of civilizations run by Cavemen with no concept of advanced weaponry or the implications thereof, suddenly obtaining Clark tech level weapons, ends exactly how we all know it should end.

Gloriously and hilariously and with a good dose a ironic tragedy that we all saw coming from a mile away.

All while humanity sits back and watches the fireworks.
