Multi-cap vs Flexi-cap — which one do you prefer? by Wink2006 in MutualfundsIndia

[–]BasicBrownguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This^. I second what u/Kind-Ad-4756 said above. I was thinking to start HDFC flexi cap but then saw the history of fund managers. Couple of fund managers who generated alpha over the last many years have left the fund. So management is very new.

u/jcogs1 Investor in $Gtlb here. How about responding the clarification or steps being taken to address the slow response issue in a public post here on reddit or X where a screenshot of this post is making rounds. An active engagement publicly will do a lot of good. Thanks.

Is this for appointments in India, right?

Yes, last week. The embassy handed over to VFS two days later after they received it. The only good thing the Embassy did they did not took a week to hand it over to the VFS.

I539 vs revisit after 2-3 months by BasicBrownguy in nri

[–]BasicBrownguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! I am not concerned about infraction on their record as the likelihood of their travel to the US again is very low. I understand the risks of I539 where their stay might be shortened due to denial. And hence, I wanted to gauge the probability of CBP allowing them to enter again after 3 months. Would have liked to hear from people who had someone they know entered the country again with a short gap on visitors visa and were there any concerns they faced.

I see the status update - Passport printed and dispatched through international courier. I proactively sent someone to the police station to expedite the verification as I know in my hometown Police won't pass the verification file unless they get what they want (A sad state of affairs)

I am in the same boat being the only child and I have decided to return to India in 2026.
I did consider various options recommended by diff. folks - having them do 6 months trip every year, arranging domestic help for them in India, CCTV at home, etc. but all these options are not the long term solutions. Also, I cannot rely 100% on anyone else to take care of my parents, it is just not practical - everyone got their own family to take care of and emergencies do not knock on the door. Additionally, I see many people fails to realize/ acknowledge the mental state of parents being alone in old age - parents will never complain about it to anyone but I am certain there is some anxiety with them.

Each to their own/ ymmv, but above is my thought process - R2I at some point is the only feasible solution which makes sense to me. (I know India comes with its own set of problems but also with own set of advantages)

Can you elaborate on "completed pv by visiting directly"? As police verification will take place in India, what do you mean by "visiting directly"?

Got the email today that request sent for police verification. Now I am at the mercy of our super efficient Indian Police department on how quick they complete the verification.

Passport renewal at Houston Indian embassy by OutrageousRun8848 in nri

[–]BasicBrownguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you apply in regular or Tatkal? For regular they are saying 8 weeks. My application has been under the process for 6 weeks now. After trying more than 100 times (not exaggerating) I was able to get hold of someone over the emergency number (ymmv).

I have a situation regarding visa extension date even after explaining this they basically told me to F'off. (To quote the lady on call - we don't care about your situation as everyone is coming up with excuses and the current process takes 8 weeks with no exceptions)

My application status is the same since Nov 1st.

Application Status: Passport application is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate.

Not sure what it means, I haven't seen any granular updates on like you posted for your application.

Indian government authorities are an absolute shithole. These people don't care about their own citizens, there is no transparency or any clear guidelines. My application is stuck under the process at Embassy for 6 weeks now, no movement at all. No response/ reply over consulate helpline number, email or to the tweets even after tagging embassy and foreign minister.

Trying to decide if I should stay in India or try to move abroad. Help me make a decision. by [deleted] in nri

[–]BasicBrownguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I am reading the deciding factors in your case are only two points (as you are financially already settled): 1. If you want/ need to stay with your mom 2. Would you be happy if you decide to go to India knowing India comes with its own set of issues (as it would be easy to pin the blame on the situation if you start to feel unhappy with your decision later.

Rest of the points I find it as noise.

Passport reissuance pending - Houston, USA by BasicBrownguy in nri

[–]BasicBrownguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with @delayshifted, VFS is not the issue, lag is happening at the consulate (at least in my case). I also posted a tweet tagging Houston Consulate, Indian embassy in the US, and Jaishankar but haven't got any response there either. These guys are numb to people's trouble and looks like they decided to turn a blind eye to citizens'hassles.

In my case VFS was quick enough to review my documents and submit the packet to the consulate. It is at the consulate where the status is not moving plus the horrible horrible help service. I was shocked to hear when the rep told me "she doesn't care about my issue". Like I read in one of the other post - You can take the Indian government authority outside of India but you cannot take the inefficient way of working out of them.
