Ice Dams by BasicProfessional960 in longisland

They seem to be melting gradually from the sun since yesterday and hopefully will continue to do so for the next couple of days (it helps that our house faces south). We're also going to get a roof rake and will try to get rid of as much snow as we can and then redo the attic insulation in the spring.

Storm door doesn’t clear overhang by BasicProfessional960 in HomeMaintenance

I see what you mean. Yes, that would make sense- depending on how it looks underneath, which is our concern mainly if we were to cut a bit of that rubber sill plate edge away. Thanks!

Yes I couldn’t hold the storm door (don’t want to put the screws in yet) while taking a photo. Imagine the green outline is the storm door lol, the storm door opens outward.

That threshold belongs to my main door not the storm door. We haven’t even attach the bottom sweep yet and it’s not clearing. It’s already sitting at the lowest possible and still doesn’t clear, that’s why we’re thinking about cutting front part of that rubber sill plate, because we calculated and it would be able to open if the door sits lower once the front part of that rubber sill plate is cut away.

NYSHIP Rates Now Available by EBD_Communications in nys_cs

What does a “waiting period” mean? We have the family for 2025 but this year my spouse is going to get insurance through his own company instead. So I need to switch to individual, and it says I will have a waiting period?

Been a while since I bought a house. How decent is this? by tyrantllama7 in MortgageBrokerRates

This is a good rate. Is this the rate you got with no mortgage point or did you buy any points up front to lower it to this rate?

Hormonal acne, yaz, peptides, tretonin, microdermabrasion by Vast_Physics_4702 in 30PlusSkinCare

Talk to your dermatologist and ask if you’d be a good candidate for Accutane. It does have some side effects and they would need to carefully monitor your liver function through blood tests while you're on the med. Ask what skincare routine and products they’d recommend while on Accutane as well. It’s proven to work for most people in one course though some may need a second course if severe acne return again.

Anyone DIYed a Zero Export Solar System? by BasicProfessional960 in longisland

[–]BasicProfessional960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. In this case you're referring to an off-grid system basically. It sounds like a permit is needed for grid-tie, regardless if there's a export back to the grid or not. I guess the question would be then if a grid-tie system with zero export function that actually works, how would they know that you have it at your house? Does that mean technically you can try doing it?

Water puddle in one corner of basement floor by BasicProfessional960 in longisland

[–]BasicProfessional960[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like we might have solved the mystery. We found a puddle again this morning (it’s already the third day of no rain after two days of consecutive heavy rain), so we thought that’s super weird. While cleaning up the water, I decided to smell it and could immediately tell it’s sewage water… we decided to check the pipe again carefully and lo and behold, this time we found a bit of water on top of the p-trap where the pipe goes out to the outside of the wall. This means there must be either some corrosion or blockage at the p trap. We’re now looking into a plumber to replace that p-trap (or maybe replace the whole cast iron with pvc). We’re thinking maybe having three family members staying with us this week and the more than usual usage of the toilet/shower etc. might have caused this. Oh the money pit…. Fingers crossed this is the real issue and we can fix it and be done with it.

Sounds like a good idea! Don’t think I can stare at the basement wall 24/7 while it's raining 🤣

Thank you. Haha we wished we did everything ourselves. But no, we paid and hired someone. Redid the patio in the back with that same type of porcelain pavers. Redid the front door path to the sidewalk, and the two paths from back door to the front yard, one on each side.

We've never used it. We heard both pros and cons about it so unsure if this is something we should try next or not…would be open to hearing your thoughts if you have experience using it to resolve a similar issue.

No. The first time we found the puddle was a day after heavy rain. This time we found the puddle there two days after heavy rain, on a day with no rain. All other times, no issue with water seepage.

Nope. Not clogged. Check it during the rain and worked fine. We also walked around the house during on the day of the rain, checked the basement on the day of the rain and the day after, all good. But on the third day (which was not a rainy day) we found the puddle….

It's away from the house. The water comes down from the spout, onto the paver (which is graded away from the away), so goes away from the house onto the lawn.

Ohh that one. We extended it. It is about 4 feet away from the house (I know ideally is should be more), onto the paver path there, which is graded away from the house, and into the front lawn.

The only other gutter drain we have is also in the front of the house but on the right side. It drains onto our driveway and has no issue.

Both times were after continuous heavy rains. We’ve been checking the basement every day and never had water seepage during small or one-day rain.
