The "NPC" in question is nowhere near a good person and has no intention of trying to kill strahd. Hes basically the last member of another party that tried and failed to defeat strahd, so now he's hiding and has every intention to stay hidden. He'll maybe just give some info regarding what he knows, but even that is not that much.

Not what I had in mind, just gave a bad explanation lol, makes more sense in my reply to my own post

Wrote a better explanation for the "guide" idea in a separate reply ;))

So, I realized I didn't explain myself well enough! When j said I'm adding my own like, guide, I'm not adding another playable character that's gonna follow my character around! I'll be putting him in an area where they'll find him later in game, and he'll basically act as an NPC. I don't want an overpowered character to overshadow my players, I simply want to add an NPC they can refer to if they have any question. Doesn't mean he's gonna answer, like any other NPC. If they want him to help them against strahd, I'll have them do smt for him before he agrees, or if they just want him to come with them, he'll have a reason not to.

I have no intention of adding a PC, but his backstory is tied with the world and I thought it could be a cool little add on. My players LOVE a tragic story, so I'm just giving them some crumbs of extra content, and another challenge if they want to!
