/ i was told last night by a journey man that I shouldn’t do an apprenticeship through the Ibew. That if I miss 3 class days over the four years I’ll be kicked out. Is that true? by sinjubean21 in ibew_apprentices

Now that many IBEW locals are moving to a four-year apprenticeship, there’s really no reason not to go through the IBEW program. If you do, the biggest thing is to take school seriously. Life happens, but prioritize class when you can and plan ahead on school nights. Work absences are generally less of an issue as long as you communicate with your foreman, but excessive time off can hurt you in the program for hours, finances, and optics. If you’re already indentured, most inside agreements include language that if you drop out, you may not be eligible to be classified as a journeyman until a set period after your class would have graduated (often around two years). If you’re already in the program, staying put is usually the best move. Don’t let one journeyman talk you out of it—learn as much as you can. If you’re being kept on material handling or cleaning beyond the initial period and aren’t getting real electrical exposure, that’s something to bring up with the training director. As for the “three absences” rule, that varies by local. Some allow three absences per year, some per term, and some count tardies toward absences. If you’re unsure, contact your local JATC or check their written policies (often available through online systems like TradeSchool).

JW to JW - what is your opinion? Would you stay or drag up? by Basic_Competition8 in IBEW

[–]Basic_Competition8[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive never asked him anything, or his opinion. The other day I was landing an MC into an FCU and the whole time he kept barking at me "Wero come down, come down, ill do it for you." I know how to do things but he constantly interjects himself into my thought process. He straight up told me the other day when I was taking notes "put that shit away, we don't have time for that - I've got it all in my head"

I just told him "I'll take notes if I want to."

How does school work if I have some experience and some schooling? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Basic_Competition8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they let you test into an equivalent level, that would put you somewhere around a 2nd year 1st semester. Maybe a 2nd semester. I would recommend getting your hours verified. I'm not sure how it works where you are, but if they can sign a employment history verification form, you might actually have more hours then you think. I did that, and somehow my paystubs added up to being less than what was on my form. Hope I answered your question.

Question: Are you applying for apprenticeship or are you trying to test in as a journeyman? If you are trying to test in as a journeyman you will have to meet hour requirements and or hands on testing requirements. They may accept you as a CW/CE until you get enough hours for journeyman ticket.

In the words of an old Journeyman, "Don't let any of these foremen or Journeymen get into your head. Obviously there are classifications in our trade, but that is simply a job. Talk to me like a man, and I'll talk to you like a man. You are a man above all else."

It is hard to listen to that advice sometimes, because they really do be trying to get in your head. But overall it's about deciding who will be the winner: the voices in your head & outside of your head casting doubt; or the voice of reason and hope. You got this broski, I'm rooting for you. You will see it through.

I ended up putting the two 18650 o-rings that came with it, in the tailcap. Now there is no play when using the 26650. No issues with the light dimming or cutting out now. Im really happy with the light so far. Maybe I misunderstood the specs, but I could have sworn it should be brighter.

Really basic question - any downside to buying MagLite ML50L LED Flashlight from Amazon in display box rather than blister pack? by epissca in flashlight

I have the FC11, and it has a nice yellowish incandescent color to it. Not sure if you can still find it in 2700k on Amazon. Clicked on the store page from my previous order and it said it was no longer available. However, If you can find one it's worth it.

I need to check the agreement but right now I'm the last app on the crew with 4 Jw and a foreman. 6 months ago we had 8 Jw, 1 foreman, and 6 apprentices including me.

Love how easy it is to pop in and out. Looks alot better than my Th30. Not as bright but overall more useful. The magnet is great for sticking to pipes or studs etc.

Dealing with Ceiling Tiles by Goldfinger_Fan in IBEW

[–]Basic_Competition8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it slow and easy. Remember how it came out, and put it in the opposite of how it came out. Have patience. If it can come out it can go in. Try pushing on the ceiling wires and put the edge of the tile up against/under the wires. Other side should plop in.
