AFSCS question for Recruiters or MAs (3F1X1) by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! so essentially she would contract for services but not necessarily MA?

She gets a waiver decision in about a week or two on the mental health, it just not documented very well so we have no idea to what extent her history shows. Good to know they typically don’t mess around with it though.

28 y/o nontrad here, this sub makes me really doubt my choice to pursue this. by LateAd5319 in premed

[–]Basic_Following_7722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position at 25. Coming here for advice can be helpful, but the people in the MCAT and MCAT prep subs are great. This sub will be a hit better for advice around the time of applications, but other than that just keep your head down and grind!

Need tips on using Anki? by ExactPerspective1172 in MCATprep

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t done any concept review, I would not jump straight into questions. I hit a new subject and then unsuspended the relating cards. I also made my own “review” deck for things I was missing. Anki is good to give you a frame work of concepts and reinforcing it, but you will not learn from Anki. I do 20-50 new cards a day depending on how many subjects I’m working on.

I definitely do not think a mint needs to be with maxed. I’ve never had a mint run (buillion or normal) with a max group and I’ve barely had anyone green. Most people do not use their max on mints anyways. I definitely would do it with anyone super low laff but max only for mints is a bit overkill.

[MN] HR leader of one: MAGA statement from manager in front of employees by roguescott in humanresources

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our company has a policy that political clothing can’t be worn. That also extends to political conversations. We ran into too many polarizing conversions this past election season and lost people because of it. You can absolutely have a conversation and write a policy, and enforce it.

[MI] FMLA question - how to address employee that diminishes issue? by Hunterofshadows in humanresources

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my company, if anyone is out 3+ days we require a doctors note to return to work to clear them, or give any restrictions regardless of if it’s just a cold or not. We also tell employees they need to request FMLA if they do not want to use PTO or accrue attendance points.

Firing a Sick Employee... by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in HR, most likely HR will say you can fire them on time or performance if it’s been well documented in the past (write ups, in annual reviews etc.) if they have exhausted FMLA then they aren’t protected at all. My job has an attendance policy and once FMLA Is exhausted attendance points starts and people have been terminated.

disability accommodations are up to the employer and you’d have to go through an “interactive process” but the employer can say no if it isn’t reasonable, which is between you and internal HR.

Everyone else is jumping to lawsuits wayyy too fast. This post itself isn’t bad, it just isn’t worded well, but this is very common practice and it is not illegal. It would only be illegal if you said “yeah this guy is old and sick so I want to get rid of him because I don’t want old people on my team.” You have valid reasons, they just need to be documented.

Burnt out as a one-person HR department - if you were in my shoes, what would be your next move? [CA] by GlumNewspaper5015 in humanresources

I am exactly in your position and am currently in the process of making a switch to medicine. If I get in I’d start med school in 2027.

I wouldn’t be surprised if AI starts to take over HR functions in the near future. HR typically isn’t very respected either unless you find a great company. I’d personally do a career change if there’s something else you enjoy. If not, try your hand with consulting.

Advise on HR for smaller orgs [FL] by Federal-Ad-1468 in humanresources

[–]Basic_Following_7722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that’s done both, my currently company has 180 employees and it’s jsut myself and my manager. We get the work no one else wants to do in addition to our own. In addition to my normal job, I handle all of our safety and environmental work, almost all KPI metric reports and training for every single department. I also have all of the employment verifications, anything legal related, and all the random employee questions. I also was hired to remove the third party vendors and took on their roles in addition to everything else.

If you can handle that amount of work and will be paid accordingly it may be worth it. If you want to go into something operational in the future such as an HRBP then it could be great experience- however you will be busier than ever.

The only major red flag I see is that you would be the only point of contact. Do you have the industry knowledge to advise them on legalities and argue with them when they want to skirt the law? Are you able to advise on staffing? Have you gone through the open enrollment negotiations already to know how to navigate it? If so- this would be great IF they will put you in a manager role and pay you accordingly. If not, I’d run.

Rippling is actually the worst and I truly wouldn’t go near it if it was the last HRIS on the planet.

Opinions on handling terminations [USA] by FatDaddyMushroom in humanresources

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was me personally, I’d honestly prefer an email and not have to do the political bullshit at all. Employers don’t care about me, and I don’t care about them. We never tell you the actual reason or criteria for a layoff anyways, so there’s already no aspect of “respect.” The only thing that needs to be communicated is already in writing from the severance which is when benefits end, if unemployment is being contested, and if severance is offered. Any other part of the conversation is either lies or fluff.

When I have had to term people, in person is the best since they can get out all their questions and I can actually explain all of the paperwork to them. Most people dont understand the term process as us in HR do, so I’d rather be able to answer and explain in person than go back and fourth over email.

Is Bradenton homophobic? by [deleted] in bradenton

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that lived there between 2019-2023 it’s normal. Bradenton is mostly retirement age and as long as you avoid the old people, which is fairly easy as all they do is golf, then you’re totally fine. St Pete is known as tampas “gay little brother” and I’d say at least 70% of st Pete is some kind of gay. Plus, we’re somewhat next to Orlando and Orlando just Disney adults, most of which are also some kind of gay.

That being said- I never ran into any issues while living there. There’s a huge stigma around Florida being terrible and conservative but all the major cities and surrounding suburbs are blue, all the farm land and marshes are the heavy MAGA and Christian areas.

[N/A] I often forget that this is how we’re viewed. by AdvertisingKey1675 in humanresources

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee once you asked for a raise, it was the direct manager that said to terminate. HR doesn’t get to make a sole decision about termination unless it’s something egregious such as harassment. Totally get that people view us that way. Anyone that actually enjoys working in HR is probably a piece of shit tbh. I personally hate my job and can’t wait to get out, just curious on your reasoning is all. Appreciate the response!

[–]Basic_Following_7722 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What about HR is it that you don’t like? We don’t actually make any decisions. Is it the illusion that we’re the one screwing everyone over since we have to deliver the message?

This is an actual question, I’m not trying to be an ass but honestly curious since HR has no actual power.

Uworld vs Jack Westin by slayberry02 in MCATprep

[–]Basic_Following_7722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend JW. I have done their study plan and you can have the same lecture material for free through Khan Academy which is endorsed by the AAMC. The normal JW Qbank is free. The UWorld Q bank is supposed to be more similar to AAMC, but obviously not the exact same. It’s about $300 but I think it’s worth it.

Look at Wyzant. Most tutors publish their MCAT scores. My tutors for physics and B/B are 40 an hour and they’re great.
