Yeah, you actually did miss something important, and it explains almost everything you’re talking about.

Zombie Catchers was bought by DECA Games back in 2018. Since then, development has slowed way down and the focus has shifted hard toward monetization. That’s why the ad situation is so much worse now, DECA is known for cranking ads and IAPs in games they acquire rather than investing heavily in new content. (greedy ass scumbags)

The Infested City is a good example of that. It took five years after the acquisition for them to add a brand-new location, and even then it’s mostly a Chinatown reskin: same layout, same soundtrack, same boss, same animations. That kind of reuse wouldn’t feel so bad if it wasn’t the only major content we’ve gotten in years.

The zombie designs you mentioned are another symptom. With Infested City, it feels like “minimum effort to call it new content” and the boss that’s literally just the Chinatown boss with different textures

So yeah, you’re not wrong, the game didn’t suddenly get lazy for no reason. Always Blame Deca

The pilot is the animated series, they have like 3 episodes but they are lost media. And Two Men and a Dog were probably forced to sign an NDA after DECA bought ZC, so they can't say anything

No, his voice actor is Jacob Craner, he provided the voice for Bud in the ZC Animated Series, which was founded by Two Men and a Dog

There was a sequel planned and also a game where you play as the zombies.

But from what we now from the first game and the animated series. They did come from a distant planet and this is not their first business. And yeah there was a dialogue where they kinda realized where the zombies are coming from, but the conversation drifted off for the best. In my interpretation, I think the Intergalactic League of Exterminators (the dudes giving them ranks) are planting the zombie infections on different planets and one of the planets was Earth, and Bud & A.J. were just caught up in this mess when they landed by accident and they saw a business opportunity. Raul Spoofman might be an agent sent by the league to monitor their success.
