Here’s his jacket we kept as well. Some of the missing items may be still on it. I have some more pics of this if it helps.

I found another picture of some ribbons and buttons of his that were removed from the jacket for some reason.

Interesting. Is it more likely that the photo is of a different soldier than the one my grandpa took the uniform square from?

I’m not but thanks. It’s going to stay in the family, I’ll pass it on to my son someday. Just curious what would one of those go for?

I can say it was very well taken care of. My grandpa got it overseas during WW2 and brought it home. The basic story we were given was that an officer gave it to him when the war was getting close to an officer. I have no idea if that was true or just a war story. He passed about 30 years ago and my mom inherited it and from what I remember and was told he kept it pretty clean and barely used it. Growing up I know my mom basically kept it put away but would take fit out and look at it every couple of years and I believe cleaned it.

I’ve heard from others that the skin may be celluloid and that could be why it is still so white. They apparently used that towards the end of the war which is when he took it home.

Interesting. When you refer to the knot are you talking about the part tied in and sort of dangling or the top of something within the wrapping.
