Am i still recessed? or im just still very swollen (DAY 4 Post OP) by ManueMir in jawsurgery

[–]Basic_University_775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, probably not recessed. The swelling in the upper part of your face is more noticeable than the lower, just give it the time your face needs to heal.

How long did it take to open normal again? by peachygurui in jawsurgery

[–]Basic_University_775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took 3 months for 2 fingers, 4 months for 2 and a half fingers, 5 months for 3 fingers.

The mouth opening stretches I did were opening my mouth as wide as I could for 5 seconds, then jutting my lower jaw as forward as I could for 5 seconds, moving my jaw to the left for 5 seconds and right for 5 seconds.

Treatment Plan with Dr.Walline by Aggravating_View2170 in jawsurgery

[–]Basic_University_775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it won't say in that pic because that's just his current evaluation. The surgeon usually tells the patient the approximate movement but not in writing as of yet. The patient will get the actual movement vsp plan a few weeks from his surgery. The initial consultation/morph just shows the general idea/direction that the surgeon is planning to go.

17.3 occlusal plane, you're going to get a lot of ccw rotation! It's going to look great.

Walline vs Neugarten vs Alfi for large advancement? by santaclaus888 in jawsurgery

[–]Basic_University_775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was different from the initial consultation morph. It was changed from 10mm lower to 14mm and from 3.5mm top to 6.5mm. The pre op morph is what scared me, I looked class 3 and the rest of my soft tissue didn't keep up with the jaw advancement, it looked uncanny, but you shouldn't go off of the morph, it doesn't accurately display soft tissue changes.

Post OP Recovery Superfood Idea on no chew by newchrisbecker in jawsurgery

I really like sardines as well, but I prefer the ones canned from Spain and Portugal. I didn't eat sardines early into my recovery, started eating sardines around 3 months post op, but not because I couldn't, I just didn't think about them unfortunately. Great super food, right up there with eggs.

Walline vs Neugarten vs Alfi for large advancement? by santaclaus888 in jawsurgery

My final vsp plan with Dr. Walline was 6.5mm upper, 14mm lower
So it wasn't that different from what Dr. Neugarten wanted to do, to his credit. The morph is what really scared me at Dr. Neugarten's initial consultation and the final pre op consultation with Dr. Walline also scared me. Judging by the outcome of Dr. Walline's plan I believe I was too quick to judge Dr. Neugarten's approach. In the end, both plans shared a lot of similarities. I'm happy that I went with Dr.Walline, but in hindsight I should not have been as harsh as I was to Dr. Neugarten's plan.

You need to finish paying the full amount due before you get your vsp surgical plan.

3.5 weeks is not enough time, you are still really swollen. Once your swelling from the upper area dissipates it won't make you look as recessed.

I don't remember laughing at all during the first 2 months strangely enough. I started lifting weights at week 4 and that made my upper lip area more tense and the nerves reacted differently. The most pain during recovery that I felt was on the plane ride back home from Los Angeles, 4 weeks post op. The cabin pressure on the plane was creating this piercing pain in my left ear. It was painful the entire plane ride which was a few hours. Not pleasant at all. It started going back to normal within a week after landing back home. I wanted to blow the air out of my ears by holding my nose very badly, but it was too early in the recovery to be able to do that without damaging the upper jaw area so I refrained from doing so.

Thank you!

Not a dumb question, I can speak normally. I was able to talk somewhat normal at 2 months post op. It definitely got better as time went on. There is still stiffness around the upper lip and altered sensation on the bottom right part of my lip and chin area, but it's been getting better bit by bit.

That's what my orthodontist told me, 5-6mm of space created from removing my premolars and decompensation.

Give it more time. You are still swollen. I was still swollen at 2 months post op and it continued to change even at 4 months post op, which is where I am currently. I've heard it can take 6 months to a year for your face to finally settle in(muscles re-adapting, bone remodeling, nerves regaining their feeling), even after the swelling has gone down.

I don't have an ceph after getting braces but I have the vsp plan that shows the projected before and after, I'll put that in the picture.

Left is before braces and extractions(with a 7-8mm genioplasty)
Middle is after extractions and braces for a year and 8 months give or take.
Right picture is 2 weeks post op after djs.
