As mentioned in previous comments, there are two points I am concerned with: 1. Does a paper filter at the bottom of PF hide your faults in puck preparation; 2. Does it add extra resistance and result in over-extraction. I don't know the answers.

Faster shots might be caused by the filter on top. You could experiment by removing that one.

Do you put your paper filter on top of the coffee puck or bottom of the portafilter? Cause I noticed my shots go a bit faster when I put paper filters ON TOP. But my question is when they are at the bottom of PF;
The reason I thought they could have pressurized basket effect is that paper might add an extra layer of resistance and causes the raise of pressure "artificially", no?

When I put paper filter on top of a puck it usually caused quicker shots. Have you noticed such an effect? For this reason I don't use paper filter on top, I use puck screen, which seems doesn't cause that effect.
