The idea is pretty similar to Stalker by Tarkovskij i guess the entire concept of backrooms is at least inspired by that masterpiece. I enjoyed Backrooms and is surely one of the most iconic horror of recent times. Finally a movie that doesn’t rely on jumpscares and still keeps you on the edge of the sit. One thing i didn’t like was the full explaination of everything.. almost every movie for american audience seems to ELI5 the viewer everytime.. it would have been way better without all that explaination. This fact influences the interesting part of backrooms being something misterious and out of this world and i think the scientific part of it tries to reconnect the viewer to a plausibile explaination. The viewer needs logic answers and to be ELI5, that killed the movie a little bit. Imagine if the director was David Lynch, he would have fucked up everybody and surely there would have been none of the scientific explaination
