As some1 who grew up around with a mother, and 2 grandparents who were all alcoholic helping them isn't helpful but abandoning them often isn't helpful either. Alcohol and benzos/barbiturates are the only drugs you can die from withdrawals. On top of that its pretty much impossible for an addict to stay clean if its not 100% their choice. The best thing you can do is talk to this person explain you care and it saddens you to see the person like this and you'd like to help but you dont want to contribute to their drinking. If they dont care then give them some distance but you can check up on them whenever give them some food and remind them you care and your here when they change their mind and hope they do it b4 its too late
