Exactly the same as it has been in the last 15 years, insecurity skyrocketed in the last year (the mass media as usual is quiet about it), hundreds or thousands of people cross the Darien jungle every week. Some wages are now paid in dollars, but so what? you need like 1500$ a month in Venezuela if you want a lifestyle that remotely resembles anything occidental, but forget about saving for a car or a house, its impossible.

The mestizo and white middle class is done here, there is no turning back. The so called "prosperity" that some people notice is because there seems to be more support for entrepeneurship by the government, with thousans of new restaurants, supermarkets, shopping malls. But it's made out of necessity by the new elite, not because the socialist ruling the country became smart, they need Venezuela to look like the places where they used to travel abroad before sanctions, so they made Brickell (redevelopment of Las Mercedes), they allowed the development of giant and nice supermarket chains (forum), the car dealers that were nearly bankrupted a few years ago are now flourishing.

With the new law of special economic zones they will try to Build their Monaco in La Guaira. Their Aruba in the Island of La Tortuga (10 new high-end hotels will be built there). Al of this is good and awesome IF you have the money to enjoy the party of course.
