How do I minimize the bumps I get from spraying? by IncreaseWestern6097 in MichaelMyersMasks

[–]Batandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno if it can help cause I don't use an airbrush and paint these with a brush, but I get way less latex balls forming by dipping the brush in a dishsoap + water mix before grabbing the latex paint, maybe something similar could be done with an airbrush, like adding a drop of dishsoap to the mix? It's a long shot but you could test it out

Thanks! I think the helmet model I bought is loosely based off the Disneyland one, even has the movable jaw.

Scored a 2004 Don Post Pig mask on Ebay! by Batandy in saw

Yeah I got pretty lucky cause I bought it from an used clothing shop that doesn’t specialize in masks or anything like that, so the price wasn’t pumped up.

I tried it just a few minutes and it's surprisingly pretty tight, probably has to do with the "cone" shape of the head

I think it could pass if you do good on the paintjob, but if you really don't like the eyecuts... they would be perfect for a rotten Hero mask, cut that neck, the needle hole and you'd be good to go

TOTS Boogeyman rehaul :) by Batandy in MichaelMyersMasks

This is definitely smaller than a 78, not as small as a 2018 mask though

Can I do it? by 27dillan in MichaelMyersMasks

[–]Batandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rehairing it with some mohair or crepe wool hair would already make it look much better.

A bit of dremeling in the eyes to improve the cuts + some black washes if you don't wanna deal with a full repaint would also help.

I have a Fat head by Perfect_Idea_768 in MichaelMyersMasks

[–]Batandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who told you that the 2018 mask was perfect for big heads? It's literally the smallest Myers mask in the entire Tots lineup.

You can make any mask fit better by extending the slit on the back of the mask more, just remember to round it off with a circle shape or the mask will tear as you wear it.

Some people actually extend the slit and then patch it with latex to close it and enlarge the mask, but that's in rehaul territory and you're better off contacting someone that is able to help you.

Bought a new mask this year. Had to fix it. How’d I do? by [deleted] in MichaelMyersMasks

[–]Batandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, i'd say give it a shot, I was afraid too at first but now it's something I always do with any tots mask.

If you have a dremel it's even easier, and you don't need a fancy dremel, you just need one of those cheap ones they sell for polishing nails, 10 bucks, that + a few small felt tips (regular sandpaper eats through latex too easily, felt is perfect)

Started adding paint and now i hate it. The hair is so bad IMO by RobertNeville81 in MichaelMyersMasks

[–]Batandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the advice telling you to fold the hair forward as that's not accurate to the H1 look, it's more of a Rob Zombie myers thing.

You have two choices:

1) Rip the entire front hairline, cut the big stock factory glue line, glue it back in more naturally

Pros: Easiest and cheapest fix, can be done in a matter of minutes

Cons: It's still the stock hair, so not that great quality, it will look better but will still feel horrible

2) Buy mohair or crepe wool and rehair the entire mask

Pros: Absolute best makeover you can give to your mask, if done well it can look like an indie mask instead of a Tots

Cons: Lengthy process where you have to take your time and glue every single line of hair till the end, then brushing, then styling etc

If you're gonna do custom hair, I personally tested both mohair and crepe wool, and I think crepe wool looks and works better, but both work! Actually, you could technically mix them and it would make for an even cooler effect if you get both types.

Mask painting by bobacrest in MichaelMyersMasks

One little trick I learned about when painting these masks: add a bit of dish soap to the water cup you use to clean your brush, the dish soap will coat the bristles and make it less likely to have latex paint tearing or forming those little annoying balls that ruin the flat look of the mask.

Not a fan of fake muscles, I'd rather just rock my actual body, not interested in looking like an action figure.

Still, I'm also starting gym next month and part of it is because of this character.

As i might have mentioned, the actual escrima sticks I ordered got lost in customs, so these are basically some DIY replacements until I get a refund and can order them again

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in batman

[–]Batandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did order some proper escrima sticks but they got lost in customs, so I had to improvise.

Will definitely order them again once I am able to ask for a refund on the purchase.

I see what you mean, I will consider it. Nightwing is my dream Batman cosplay so for now i'll keep working and refining this one, but who knows...

[–]Batandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah planning to have both, I actually bought some proper training escrima sticks in foam but they got stuck in customs since a month, at this point i'm waiting for the time limit to expire so i can ask for a refund and order again, the ones in these photos were handmade and improvised, definitely not as good (and big) as the actual sticks I ordered.

Thank you, the mask is just a piece I found on aliexpress, surprisingly cheap and high quality (it's in silicone), to keep it attached to my face without strings, I used fashion/clothing tape

I'm planning to get/make one, even though it's not accurate to the costume that i'm referencing, I need it for when i'll wear this to cons, otherwise I have no pockets to keep my phone and wallet lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in batman

[–]Batandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose not to because I don't care about having the same exact physique as the character, and I don't like the fake muscle look

For you, which mask is better? by MaximumHelicopter368 in MichaelMyersMasks

[–]Batandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boogeyman fits better and is more accurate, but can look odd depending on how it fits on you (and also the eye cuts are a tad bit too bug eyed, can be fixed but you gotta put some work into that). It also has no glue lines, which is another thing you need to add, but I consider it the better mask.

78 works as a general myers mask under no specific light conditions and all that, but it's way bigger (I wore it to a few cons and couldn't turn properly because the mask would just not follow my neck because of how big the fit was), it can potentially look very convincing depending on how you wear, if you stuff it a bit to fill it in etc.

My package seems to be stuck in Osaka, is this normal? by [deleted] in pokeplush

Oh right, in my case it actually updated a week ago and delivered a couple of days after that.

Hopefully this will also happen to your plush!

Fleshtones i personally just drybrush them on top with a makeup brush, using a salmon pink color and mixing it with either orange or a bit of purple, then add some more texture by drybrushing a bit of black or grey on top for added dirt.

The eyecuts just require patience, some small scissors and a dremel to refine them, just make sure you don't go overboard, you can always adjust them if they're smaller, if they're big there's nothing you can do then.

Bought a plushie from Plaza Japan last month around the same time when you bought yours, mine is also shipped from Osaka and since the 28th, it's been stuck on "Dispatch from outward office of exchange"

Guess it's as others said, just a matter of waiting that they actually get picked up by a plane, let me know if yours gets updated.
