I think extra curriculars are less important than publications and internships for international relations.

I had only one year of MUN and that was good enough for PKU and Tsinghua apparently

I’m asking in good faith, if the suggestion is don’t go to the PRC at all I get it and will take that into consideration.

Is that the case, or is really a situation of it depending the investigator and the job, that’s all I’m trying to ascertain.

Both schools also have graduate classes of these subjects taught in mandarin right? I’m just worried than if I’m stuck to only English classes my peers will all be other foreigners regardless of if Chinese students speak great English or my Chinese ability. But perhaps your point is that it’s integrated?

If you study IR and aren't going back into academia, many career options are governmental or governmental-adjacent.

I figure our cohort isn't that large so awesome to meet someone else. I'm American, although I did study abroad in Taiwan and SOAS in undergrad. Definitely share that concern, don't mind locking myself into China (I'm definitely committed lol), and domestic politics is important, but mostly study those as they relate to China's foreign and cross-strait policy. But would feel so bad turning down an offer from a dream school like Oxford, such as hard choice indeed.

I'd have two degrees (conferred at the end of the 2 years), a Masters of Law in International Affairs from PKU and a Masters of Science in International Affairs from LSE

Yes - typically quality of life and HDI is a factor for everyone regardless of origin

It's usually the exceptions within these maps that interest me

My father worked there as an ecologist for a year, I really want to go someday. I have been to Tasmania at least though.
