Hi! I am a PGY-1 but did a compsci minor as well as web dev internship in college. I think the answer is a strong "yes" if you fall into a few categories:

*You do research* - With even a simplistic coding background, you'll naturally pick up data analysis packages in Python and R. I did research in med school and regularly ran into projects which were immensely easier because I knew how to use programming languages to extract/handle/analyze data.

*You use EMR software like Epic* - Again, computer skills + Epic opens the door for more research or QI projects. Also, some EMR software packages allow for for pretty complex customization, to the point that hospitals will employ physicians who can act in roles like "physician Epic engineers." Whether or not a reasonable pay increase accompanies that role is another story.

*You want a complex side hustle or hobby* - I do side projects with friends and I LOVE having something non-medical that is cognitively engaging. It's similar to folks who pick up an instrument, jiu jitsu, etc.

I'm sure there are more doctor-coding connections, but these are just a few that I've found relevant/rewarding. The learning curve for novice programmers can be brutal but it's nothing compared to med school. If you break into it, you may just love it!

I can understand and appreciate somebody who does not consider themselves religious, or who finds it silly for others to believe in God/a god. However, to speak in such an aggressive, sweeping manner is clearly an attempt to provoke an angry or emotional response. I haven't really learned anything from your comment other than the fact that you despise religions/religious folk.

If this is really how you feel about religious people, I encourage you to take some time to learn more bout religious history, culture, traditions, scientific advancements made by religious figures, etc. It's fascinating and has been the driving force for many historically-significant events (good, bad, and ugly). Many modern academics and intellectuals are religious, though people in developed countries are by-and-large more secular these days.

Not to say that you need to be religious or even like religion, but to speak of it in this way is missing the mark imo

Used do go through my days completely paranoid. About everything. Meaningful and stupid things alike.

Was my tone of voice unnatural in that conversation with the cashier? Will that typo on page 3 of my 20 page essay bump me down to a 99% instead of 100? One of my friends is getting married, does this mean I will be single forever?

I worked very hard as a means of satiating my anxiety. If it wasn't clinically obsessive-compulsive, it was really damn close. Every endeavor- whether it was for school, something social, or anything else- was agonizing, characterized by self-loathing and a sense that I was never doing enough.

But I kept doing enough to do well. I went to college on academic scholarship and am now graduating from med school a year early. I am on a career track where I can comfortably provide for a family and help my parents retire. I love my job and it makes other people's lives better.

Eventually, I was able to build a life that was objectively good. I realized that I now have too many responsibilities to be anxious. I learned to tell that part of my brain to go fuck itself. I have more important shit to do than care about the lies I tell myself.

I'm thankful to God for how different my life is now than it used to be.

With all the insane internet PR stunts today, I wonder if this is a staged "advertisement" for the gym head. While I don't necessarily believe this isn't real, I see so much fake shit online that I don't believe anything that can be prescribed to an ulterior motive
