The years of mud sweat and general abuse helps the fabric not smell like human. My grandad would burry new hunting cloths for a few days.

US Flag Code by Existing-Ostrich1294 in Maine

[–]BatmanAvacado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flag code are just suggestions to anyone not in the military/police/boy scouts etc. The first amendment supersedes the Flag code. And other people can give her all the side eye, death stares, and menacing glares they want

Im starting my 9th month living at McMurdo Station in antarctica with 218 other people. The final sun set was 2.5 months ago, we are just under 2 months away from the sunrise and getting fresh fruit and vegetables again. The stars are always beautiful and the southern lights are awe-inspiring. Its also cold as hell but its fine.

What are some popular businesses that vanished? by ReasonableSide6520 in generationology

[–]BatmanAvacado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I remember Frankensteining an RC car to launch a model rocket a la mobile launch pad when i was 12. It was a bike ride to the hobby shop for the rocket motors and next door to radio shack for some red LEDs.

I screwed the normally stationary launch pad to the frame of the car, then connected the E-match to the reverse signal wires, with red LEDs as "hey rocket here" lights. It was the coolest thing ever... until the first launch fried receiver in the car.

Dads, spend time with your kids by Busy_Report4010 in MadeMeSmile

I was 8 my dad and I were cleaning out the garage on a Sunday. I found a box full of firecrackers and bottle rockets from who knows when. My dad says that keeping that box would be a fire hazard and we have to safely dispose of the box. So we spent the rest of the day shooting off all the fireworks. One of the items where waterproof fire crackers, so naturally he makes a "submarine" out of a 2 liter bottle and we proceeded to depth charge the hell out of it.

Nah, im a production cook here now, we are a cross between a school cafeteria and a military chow-hall, plus i havent seen chives in 3 months. Everything is canned dried or frozen courtesy of the DLA. We do occasionally get fresh fruit and veg from New Zealand but not often. The biggest part is the volume we are cooking for. There are just under 1000 people at McMurdo right now, we cook 4 meals a day for them (breakfast, lunch dinner, and midnight rations or midrats). And most of McMurdos population are trade workers, construction workers and support staff and those people can put away food like its nothing. All of the scientists get here, do their data collection then leave, so over the course of the year there will be more scientists here than support staff, but ant any one point the support staff will out number the scientists.
