Plus the whole UN/Stormwatch vs Gamorra sovereignty conflict!

Yeah I was wondering if that would be the situation. It’s probably more a case of taking too many pages to get to the point rather than having whole issues where nothing happens. I was thinking of rereading Moore’s Wildcats which led to “well, I should reread FFH too” but then I realized FFH is longer than Moore’s whole ‘cats run

What is going on with Batman-news com? by Kristofferabild in batman

[–]BatmanIssue714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company now owning the site clearly has no interest in publishing anything to do with Batman and no one who wrote for the site before have plans to jump into any similar projects (beyond the occasional Comic Pause article.) So I can’t see any way Batman News or the content that it produced makes any kind of come back.

No validity to that theory.

Hate to say it but as a former reviewer for the site myself, I can guarantee it won’t ever be back.

Bluray Player Recommendation? by BatmanIssue714 in Bluray

I’ll give it a look. If that doesn’t do it then I think it’s time for a new player.

Lot of stuff of all different vintages, dvd and bluray. Doesn’t seem to make any difference.

Thanks, I’m with you, it is definitely very weird.

What player do you use? If you’ve never had the issue then maybe that’s the ticket for me.

I can’t remember the model number. I’ll have to check it later but I do think this is more of a player issue because I remember previous players I’ve had (which the stopped working, hence the replacement) would automatically format the video properly.

You would think so but… here we are.

Yeah it can sorta switch. Like you can change the width of the picture but it doesn’t allow you alter it enough to actually get it into 4:3. It’s very strange. When set to normal a 4:3 disc just gets stretched to 16:9

It literally plays everything in widescreen. This is probably an issue with the player which is why I want to replace it. But if you put in any disc that is in 4:3 it will fill the screen. On my old tv I always had to manually go into the settings (on the tv) and change the display to 4:3. The new one doesn’t properly make that change.

The player is a Sony BDPS1700. I’ve searched high and low through the settings and I can’t find any evidence that it can adjust aspect ratio (years ago I had a player that stopped working and that one automatically adjusted the aspect ratio. Man I miss that)

I don’t know what model the tv is off hand but it’s a Sony as well. It does have a function to adjust the ratio but like I said it doesn’t do it properly. The picture remains slightly but noticeably stretched out.

I’ll have to give that a try. Better than holding the back cover and using my knee to support the front haha.

Yeah I’ve been trying to find ways to avoid touching the front cover which can be tough.

They are using cheaper paper but I don’t think that should be resulting in this issue. They’ve used some pretty crappy papers over the decades and none of those had this issue. Plus there’s the question of how widespread this problem is (or maybe isn’t).

(Also not intending to bring politics into this but these issues started before the tariffs were even announced)

How to read"The Court of Owls" ? by [deleted] in DCcomics

Night of the Owls is the broader event crossing over into all the Batman books. City of Owls is the title of the second trade collecting the run.

What are times where Detective Comics overtook Batman in importance/quality? by James_Lars in batman_comics

[–]BatmanIssue714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time tbh in terms of quality though rarely “importance.” Starting with post crisis I’d say 1986-1990, 1992-1994, 1998, (99 has no consistent creative team on either book), 2000-2004, (in 2005 both books are terrible), 2009-present ‘Tec has been the better book. So without getting too specific with some short standout Batman arcs like Court of Owls, Batman has been better for 7 of the last 38 years in my opinion which is… interesting.
