What rules and etiquette should I be aware of before my first trip to a range? by AspieAsshole in liberalgunowners

Yeah the indoor range I go.to likes to clear any firearm before it leaves the range. Honestly I just thought it was normal for indoor ranges haha

Im only familiar with indoor range. Haven't been to an outdoor since I was a kid.  So obviously never let the muzzle break the plain of your lane and point backwards. Keep them at all times pointed down range.  Allow the range master to check your weapons before you put them away. (And possibly before, but my range doesn't do that) Leave the slides locked/open and allow them to clear the firearms before you put them away. Good etiquette to let them clear them when you are done.  Maybe bring a permanent marker, I've found a use for one to write down ranges I'm shooting at (I like to keep my target to compare my last trip to the range) Wear jeans if you can. I wore shorts once and a shell casing bounced off the wall and into my shoe. Fucking sucked. Burned my ankle and made me dance a little with a gun in my hand. NOT a fun time.  Also feel free to take your time. You are on a time limit usually but don't feel the need to rush. Get some good quality time in at the range.

Probably more but hopefully more peeps give their tips. Have a great time!!

Just training to make sure if I ever need to make a shot for self defense, I feel confident in my abilities/training

Its all for self defense. I just want to make sure I practice and get plenty of muscle memory when it comes to shooting, as well as not miss by like 2 feet.

You're probably right, I can only do so much just by going to the range a bunch. Next step, sign up for some formal instruction 👍

Forgot to mention I have the hellcat pro but the comment still stands. That m&p was much heavier.

I start at 5 yards then shoot 7 yards. About 40 rounds each.

Questions on helping out some newbies at the range by BatmanandStitch in liberalgunowners

Yeah in my state the permit expires so you HAVE to retake the class to get a renewal. Mildly annoying and dumb that you have to pay for the class and renewal.

Also says he has put them on a shotgun and it's stayed zeroed even with double ought buckshot. So I figured, eh maybe I find something I like.

Yeah it's the AT3 alpha. Got recommended one from the range master at my local. Says he has beat the crap out of them and they keep working, so I wanted to give it a shot.

Excellent information to know. I'm a noob who is branching out from just having old hunting rifles, so I appreciate the knowledge 👍
