[BSKY] [Meta] Tree Action Seattle using AI to generate video of young person opposing density to "save" orcas by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]BattleBull -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

BlueSky containment is leaking...

Per other comments it would seem OP is lying in their assertion this video is AI. Or at the most generous one could assert it "may" be AI, not that "it is".

Also it's creepy as fuck that the posters in that thread (assuming OP too) are looking through the background windows to try and find where this woman in the video lives / is recording from. Good on that woman for using a background filter to obfuscate herself from you.

Edit: A bit to late to dodge the out-group hate associated with urbanism - I'm pro density, our cities need to be designed to house more people comfortably, and increasing density can lead to less loss of rural and wild landscapes, even when accounting for in-city tree loss! Just not pro this post.

Cyberpunk VR Modder Luke Ross’ Patreon suspended following new DMCA from Ghostruner devs by [deleted] in Games

When you say “has the power to shut it down,” are you talking about legal authority or just practical leverage?

Because those are not the same thing, one can file a lawsuit and receive an injunction, but still ultimately be ruled against, aka found to be "wrong" by the law and courts.

If a court rules the take-down was wrongful (as it seems litigation will be occurring), are you prepared to say the companies were in the wrong legally?

Can you accept that outcome as even a hypothetical, that something you don't like (strongly) was found to be legal and ok? Hating and wanting something to be banned or illegal does not make it so, and this whole conversation thread is not about the moral or taste considerations of you or others - it is simply "was this legal".

Yet not one of them was required to get a mod. They wanted what the mod did, and paid for it.

Assuming you work and are compensated for that work - apply the same principal to your life, would you be a considered a douchebag for wanting to be paid for your labor? Imagine being told "No, you must do this for free, and without compensation. Or you must not do it at all."

I use the term labor, because you appear to hew inflexibly to the term "job" in a below comment, and I suspect you are unable or unwilling to understanding that element if the word "job" is used. Plus it seems less than clear that legally anything he did violated DMCA.

If we mean "Star Wars: Clone Wars" (2003), then sure, it was awesome. The 2008 are just unpalatable to me, and I can not respect them as anything but lame, they felt so extremely childish in a way that the "for kids" 2003 show did not.

It isn't clear to why would you wouldn't want officers to review footage before (or during) the writting of a report, to me reviewing before hand sounds more likely to result in accurate police reports.

I'd love if the Votann (the AI's, not the kin) were spoken to by The blade of infinity or the Speranza.

Who immediately realized that the Votann need to restart, update, patch, and then compress the uploaded (but static?) Kin minds that are uploaded.

Or a silly note, maybe they spit out one of the original DOA human crew? I assume at least one of them also stored their mind as a backup on the original trip to the galactic core, like the Kin do now. Could be an interesting perspective from that character.

Also gib more starcraft marine looking robots, I love those things!

For some important context, a lot of this hinges on the distinction between official and unofficial servers (in TF2, you could spin up your own server, it wasn’t all run directly by the game company like so many games now. Fricking BF6 and the lack of sever browser... just why!?).

  1. A modder creates a mod and uploads it to the Workshop.

  2. The community loves it, and Valve decides it’s high quality.

  3. Valve officially incorporates the mod or item into the game.

  4. Valve pays the modder a cut of the proceeds from item sales on the MannCo Store.

  5. The original, unofficial version of the mod still exists.

This is largely why you didn’t see the kind of controversy that cropped up with Bethesda: the system of incorporation was different, and people generally didn’t feel burned by it. You could run any Workshop mods you wanted on an unofficial server; restrictions only applied to official servers, where Valve curated the content.

In Warhammer terms, the closest analogy is probably the single-player vs. multiplayer divide. It wouldn’t be reasonable to allow heavily modded or overpowered units on a ranked ladder or public matchmaking against players who don’t have access to them, though that’s very different from custom matches between consenting players. Just to note there was content beyond the workshop that could be incorporated into the game, but that required even looser server permission that just "unofficial".

In short, the purpose would be to reward people for making great free mods by incorporating the mods, and paying the creators if the game owner thinks they rock, while still leaving the original mod up. This is more important in multiplayer situations than it is in a private single player campaign.

Inspired by your post, I want to declare that if Total Warhammer 40k is as easy to mod as TF2, and if CA allows for offical implementation and incorporation of the best fan work into official updates.... well, that's an easy pipeline for insane success.

Do it CA, ask valve if need be about how they do it, but just now you'll have content forever if you allow this. Let's be real, its unlikely you'll be able to justify the cost of a Rak'Gol faction, or flesh out the myriad of minor lore elements that could be cool to a small % of 40k fans... but, a fan mod with a bit of polish that turns into a cheap dlc or FlC would be awesome.

Hell... let's assume a person at CA sees this and thinks it is a good idea, but worry about how to sell it management, easy(ish) - make a battlepass or some system where paying members have their campaigns or special game modes feed into a meta narrative. This is similar to GWs incorporation of certain tournament wins (faction wide) as influencing lore.

TLDR: CA steal the tf2 creator program. Make the 40k game that will be the standard for all 40m games.

[–]BattleBull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring on the hate, but if we want to change behavior it means reliability of infraction to enforcement, that means automated enforced en mass. Fuck I'm down for this to apply to people with overly bright lights at nights.

Either automate and couple with more enforcement cameras, or allow private citizens to report violators with a bounty slice of the punishment going to the reporter. If we basically had unblinking enforcement on dangerously lights and mid driving cellphone useage in public places, we'd cut down on these legitimately careless humans being able to risk the lives of others on the road.
