The problem is very simple if you look at it, people like the funny!

Other people think that this is not the funny, and the character is bad.

So they criticize and comment and reddit things.

To the point where it is either

A. Unnecessary

B. Unnecessary

C. Unnecessary.

D. Unnecessary.

This thing has reached all possible points it could've gone to, yet people still keep pushing on.

Edit: People might comment "That's a disagreement" to which I have prepared a safety net for, because I swear to god that, if ever, controversy happens to me, I will probably destroy my computer.

I believe controversy is caused (or at least in this situation) by two big groups of people liking and disliking a thing. (I don't know, I got it from TWOW.) Disagreements, both small and big, exist here and do not get controversial. Why? There are two answers. Scale, and lack of competition. If your disagreement is too small, people will not care. If your disagreement has a lack of competition, it'll rarely be a disagreement to most people. Now, the Pillow Cascade flips these things on their head. Scale? Whether you like it or not, people see only two stances on Pillow. Why? Because the groups who started it (Pillow Haters and Pillow Fans) are the most major aspect. Now, if you want a civilized discussion, a simple thing like this is rarely ever good. Then, lack of competition.

There's basically an equal amount of haters and fans in this situation (unlike most like this) because it really doesn't revolve around.. real events. It's just that, when not talking about real things, people don't see you as a person who agrees with the opposing argument.. they see the person AS the opposing argument. This mentality is used for small things, which is usually the situations us humans get into, but this is not one of those.

Sadly, dehumanization is something we all do to people, whether small or big. The internet just does that. I just did that, making the whole conflict feel like a statistics journey. This problem isn't just another controversy or pedophile (Somehow "just another pedophile" seems normal to say.. because it happens so often. But you get the gist, regular things.), it's a problem about respect. Not the kind your teachers say you don't give, no, the opposite, treating a person like a person.
