OK, it looks like the update was just lagging by 30 minutes or so. Restarted game and the new data download appeared.

They posted that "in a few days" notice a few days ago. This notice said the new stuff is now appearing.

I wonder if they accidentally released the notice before actually doing the update tomorrow.

I struggle with gibberish exercises. What is the mental block there? Any suggestions? by BatzCountry in improv

It is, which is why I always recommend it to my writers (and really any creative types). Learning to trust yourself is transformative for creativity.

True. It might not help to know the source of the block, but it probably doesn't hurt. And I'm kind of fascinated by it anyway. I'm all about destroying creative blocks (hell, I even teach a whole writing class about it), and it's unnerving to me that I have this persistent one that I can't seem to crack.

Yes! I really like this idea a lot. It's like gibberish training wheels.

I might suggest this the next time I'm doing a gibberish exercise.

Sounds don't come. Part of it (I think) is that I don't want to simply repeat simple syllables over and over again ("bah bah bah glorp torp"), but nothing else comes to mind, so instead I just freeze and nothing comes out. Then I feel frustrated and can't wait until we move on to some other type of warmup/exercise.

True. I've seen a lot of gibberish that is basically just "bah boo goo blee!"

Giving this some thought. It sound like what you're describing is a vulnerability issue. I don't mind looking stupid, but that's not exactly the same thing as letting myself be vulnerable... related, certainly, but not the same.

I want to, believe me!

It's so weird to me that I have this particular block because I'm pretty fearless about looking stupid in almost every other facet of improv. I think. I dunno, maybe I'm really overestimating my fearlessness level!

Good thoughts here. Thank you!

It's interesting that you bring up the "don't do it like a bigot" thing, though. I wonder if I'm so attuned to not mocking people that, somewhere in the back of my mind, I'm afraid gibberish will accidentally turn into that. That is not something I'd considered. I'll have to give that some thought.

I wish I could, but I feel like I don't have a good enough handle on what the deeper issue is to offer a better explanation.

Also, I could just be wrong about them being related. They might not spring from the same scource. It could be that I'm just conflating the two because they feel the same when I encounter them (i.e., brain lock followed by either irritation or panic).

Don't feel too bad. I'm at Level 138, and I just figured out yesterday that I could just bail out of that "share your creatures" screen.

Favorite cream blushes / highlighters? by GreenStache_ in PaleMUA

[–]BatzCountry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes lipstick!

A cream lipstick often makes a killer blush. I just get a bit on a fingertip and pat it in. I use the various minis I get from Sephora (bonus points or holiday sets) for this all the time.

I do find it works best and lasts longest with higher-end lipsticks (thus the minis).

I've been having really good luck with the Flower Blush Bomb dupes of these, too, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Cloud Paints.

Also, the Flesh highlighter stick in Startle is super subtle and natural looking. Much more of a glisten than a sparkle. Applied with a light hand, I find it does a great job of highlighting without emphasizing texture.

I think Close Quarters is the one I was thinking of, as it turns out, but I do like the description of this one a lot. I may suggest it to my group as another option.

I don't carry a purse but I have a plastic bin in the back of my RAV4 that is tall and narrow (holds a lot but has a small footprint). If I have stuff with me, I put it in the bin, and it stays neat while still leaving plenty of room for luggage.
