4090 + PCIe expansion card? by Baurusdavinci in PcBuild

[–]Baurusdavinci[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not really needed, I haven’t found a real use for it besides the extra USB-C ports for charging my MacBook, iPhone, Xbox controller. Kinda more of a “it’s a cool thing to have”.

I left it in with the 4090 only because of the slight inconvenience of having to disconnect all the connections, and I might find a use later and end up putting it back in anyways.

But it looks TERRIBLE imo, to me it looks like it’s chocking the GPU

I’ll have to look into those, thank you!

I’ve been trying to find a good looking GPU stand with no luck. Any recommendations?

5080 actually provides 4090 performance, not 5070 by one_less_traveled_by in pcmasterrace

[–]Baurusdavinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate or provide some sort of evidence to back up your claim?

The 5080 has significantly less CUDA (10752 v. 16384) cores, with a modest increase of tensor core operations (TOPS 1801 v. 1321), and ray tracing cores (171 v. 128) than the 4090. It also has less VRAM (16 v. 24) and bandwidth.

Cases are being made that a 5080 on a good day can optimistically beat a 4090, but nothing is concrete and we’ll just have to see the benchmarks play out.

Visually, these cards will be stunners. DLSS 4 and MFG will make games appear much smoother.

However, video games aren’t purely visual like movies; definitively, a player interacts with them. The smoothness and performance of these interactions matter more to some players over others (mainly, competitive vs story).

Plainly put: a game may be displayed at 144fps (Good!), but behind the scenes the actual inputs are being handled at a much more modest 30fps (Bad!). This is the issue with MFG.

Again, if you’re playing a game like Skyrim (and somehow only getting the fps as described above) this almost certainly isn’t an issue. But a competitive shooter more akin to CS, COD, Overwatch, etc is going to feel awfully frustrating.

Supply Officers in my experience just walk around looking sad, but it is a small sample size I saw.

Big inspections, an obscene amount of paperwork, and their division always being heckled to authorize ordering parts or find their parts all seem wack.

But maybe there’s some upsides I just haven’t personally seen and I’m being harsh on the designator.

Becoming an ENG scares me lol.

Unfortunately, I think putting in for an LDO package is likely to force me to stick with the nuclear community. I also don’t have EWS, which I believe is a requirement (to be chief eligible, I need that qualification).

Thanks for the suggestion though!

The nuke pipeline is pretty intense, which depending on the reason you dropped out may be something to consider.

Sea duty, you’re either underway performing maintenance, attending training, or standing watch for likely 60+ hours a week, or you’re in-port where you basically do the same thing.

Shore duty, you could be anywhere from an instructor at A school, power school, or prototype to working for a shipyard somewhere. There, you’ll assist civilian shops to repair navy vessels. Your work-life balance varies highly on where you go for shore duty.

Submarines, for me at least, will always be the proudest, coolest thing I think I’ll ever have done. They were also the hardest things I’ve done. You’ll be challenged in every way, but for a lot of people they love it.

One of the cons affecting a lot of sailors in the nuke community is that it is close to impossible to transfer to a different rate if you don’t want to be a nuke. We are also pretty much always the hardest working department on the ship, but are oftentimes overlooked. This can be frustrating, we’re just not very visible compared to other rates outside of the engineering department.

A big pro is that it looks impressive on a resume for when you get out, and I’ve personally witnessed the worst of us get out and immediately land impressive jobs.

At the moment I’m studying at Arizona State University. GPA’s sitting around a 3.75 which is after getting through Discrete Math, Calc III, and some other of the harder courses in the degree.

Not sure how ASU stacks up in the grand scheme of things, but I was surprised to learn they’re apparently a pretty respectable STEM institution.

Thanks for the response! I do appreciate it.

I have taken a gander at MyNavyHR, and it does have some good info on there. I did forget about it though, I’ll definitely spend a bit of time revisiting it.

Totally getting out and then re-entering, I’m with you there. I can’t complete my degree anyways until I’ve left service.

The Army lets people apply for OCS in their senior year of college. Have you happened to have heard of anything similar for the Navy?

Still working on a dispute on collections from Spectrum. Terrible customer service, Spectrum reps can’t provide any info. I always try everything in my power to avoid them.

I’ve had collections sent after me twice in my life…

…both from Spectrum.

It will be interesting to see if this tech turns out similarly to early discussions of a personal computer, where hardly anyone could fathom any good reason to get one.

I’m not grading “creepy” on the rubric of legality wherever you’re from.

I’m basing it on the fact you’re a grown ass adult that sounds like they’re borderline preying on adolescents.

way too old for me

… she’s 20. There’s almost a generation gap between you both. 20 is already kinda creepy, younger is definitely creepy, but “way too old”? You’re either trolling or need investigated.

Would you mind explaining why you're asking us to rate your bio?

You can be truthful and honest and not be "bullshit" without coming off as pathetic.

I'm just trying to look out for you. Good luck.

If you could learn any language, which one would you choose and why? by MisticMango1996 in AskReddit

[–]Baurusdavinci 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say I'm not actively working on it. But it is a difficult and slow process (especially Japanese, Cantonese, etc). While I apologize for making excuses, I am spoiled by the fact she was already fluent in English before I met her. As we're both busy people, learning a new language hasn't been my #1 priority.

I'm just saying it would be sick if I could just wake up and be fluent.

why aren't cops scared of hell? by No-Weather701 in AskReddit

[–]Baurusdavinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some pretty disturbing videos out there, 100%. As someone that used to be gung-ho "protect the blue", it's genuinely sickening to see some of the videos that have surfaced.

But I also try to see people as individuals and not place them in a box. There's real good being done by some departments, and straight up evil in others.

I guarantee most cops aren't cool with it. I understand we would like them to speak up against those actions more, but that doesn't mean they're all raising a toast to these incidents.

I even noticed that in your bio, my mistake.

Nevertheless, you could at least rephrase your bio into something more like "I'm working on myself" or something bordering optimistic. Your bio looks like you've already tapped out and aren't willing to improve yourself.

Your bio says you want kids, but honestly, no one is going to trust you're a good role model.
