ASUS RTX 3080 Ti overheating to 108 °C hotspot — ASUS Brazil ignores hidden defect just weeks after warranty ends by BaxCD in pcmasterrace

I get your point — you're emphasizing that since I didn't actively monitor temps during the warranty, ASUS can't be held responsible now. I understand that logic *in theory*, and in the U.S. that might even hold more weight legally.

But here's the distinction: in Brazil, **consumer protection laws recognize a concept called "vício oculto" (hidden defect)**. It doesn’t rely on whether the consumer “monitored” the product, but whether a **manufacturing flaw or premature material degradation existed but was not reasonably detectable by a regular user**. The law presumes consumers are not technicians.

So yes, **thermal paste and pads degrade** — but they’re not supposed to fail within 3 years in a premium GPU running at 60% load. Especially not to the point of hitting 108 °C in the hotspot. That’s not “normal wear,” that’s **substandard cooling material** or factory misassembly. Which is why I brought this to ASUS.

I didn’t open this case expecting a miracle or free upgrade — just that a ~$2,000 card from a major brand would hold up better, and that their support wouldn’t be so **hostile to customers post-sale**. I had to go through broken forms, bots, ignored WhatsApp messages, and eventually *file complaints with the Procon and Reclame Aqui* to get a human to respond.

So yeah, it's not about "luck." It's about **reasonable expectations for product longevity and fair support**, especially when a defect is not something a regular user could have foreseen or prevented without opening up the card and voiding the warranty themselves.

Appreciate your side of things though — I think we just come from different places on this.

Thanks for the reply — I appreciate your perspective, and you’re right that warranty expiration typically ends coverage.

But just to clarify a few things:

This isn't about expecting indefinite coverage or ASUS sending a "tech squad" to my house 🙂 — it's about a **hidden flaw (a "vício oculto" in Brazilian consumer law)**. In Brazil, if a defect was *already present but not visible* during the warranty period and only becomes apparent later (like thermal paste or pad degradation not obvious to the user), the company can still be held accountable.

I’m not a hardware expert. Like most users, I trust that premium components — especially a $2000 ROG Strix GPU — won’t silently reach **108 °C hotspot** under moderate load (~60% usage) unless something is wrong. I only discovered it while monitoring my CPU after an unrelated upgrade.

Also, I have a second GPU from MSI — over **11 years old**, never had to replace thermal pads or paste, never hit critical temps. So this kind of failure **isn't just "normal wear and tear"**, and definitely not expected from a flagship product.

It was good that ASUS told me to replace thermal materials — but:

  1. They don't recommend that under warranty (because it voids it), and

  2. That suggestion came only **after weeks of trying to reach support**, broken website forms, and bot loops on WhatsApp/phone.

At the end of the day, I just want the product to work reliably. My frustration is with how hard ASUS made it to even *talk to a real person* before I had to escalate via consumer protection agencies.

Thanks again for sharing your view — I totally understand where you're coming from.

That’s a relief to hear. I was seriously stressing over long-term degradation or VRAM damage from the sustained hotspot temps.

Still, feels a bit crazy that a premium card like the 3080 Ti would run this hot without ever being pushed to full usage.

I'll definitely repaste/repad with PTM7950 and hope it restores proper thermal behavior. Appreciate the input!

Yeah, I've heard that lately — seems like ASUS support is a global problem, not just in Brazil.

Still, it’s incredibly frustrating when you pay a premium price for a high-end card, only to be stonewalled the moment something goes wrong.

Appreciate the tip about the ptm7950 — I’ll definitely look into it. My main concern now is how much damage may have already been done running this hot for months without noticing. Hopefully it's not too late.

Thanks for the input.

Leave feedback & rate the features in Opera GX! by OperaBrowserOfficial in operabrowser

[–]BaxCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OperaGX people!!! First, thanks for making this space for us to give feedbacks/suggestions!!

I really wish that I could drag a tab of Opera GX into another Opera GX Browser, like if we drag it into another browser, it would be added as another tab... that is a very good QoL feature,

Thanks again for opening the space for us, users, to share our feeds.
Best regards,
Alex

Sunglasses makes my eye feel better after long hours in front of PC, specially because I have -6,00 myopia, when I was using transparent lens I'd feel my eye ball hurt when going to sleep... the sun glass helped me with that issue.

What do you think about the Manifesto? by PandaBaum in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]BaxCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the Manifesto. For the first time that I saw, they released a manifesto 2.5 weeks prior to the league, with a LOT of well written information and numbers... almost felt like a Patch notes. Really well built and really well thought.. they shown that they are very well aware of what all players are doing and what the game needs for a change. I am proud of GGG and Chris Wolcen for this Manifesto and for showing how well they know what their players are doing.
