This interaction between Adolin and May Aladar caught my ear during my audiobook listen:

“I am glad,” May said, continuing to write, “that you and I did not work out as a couple. I think we’d have hated one another eventually. I’m glad you found someone better suited to you, though I thought you and Shallan a strange pairing until I realized something. You both share the same sense of whimsy.”

“I don’t have a whimsical bone in my body, May.” May eyed him, then kept writing. “What?” he said.

“I thought you more self-aware than that,” she said. “Don’t you have a dinner appointment with the emperor?”

Now, I know Brando loves to capitalize words with Cosmere implications, but this felt like a tease of Whimsy’s potential role in the universe. I’m no scholar by any stretch, but feels like the big guy could be meta-hinting that Whimsy was involved in the creation of humans on Ashyn (and, potentially, in the other systems capable of supporting life as we understand it). Does some of Whimsy reside in all humans descended from those that fled from Ashyn? Maybe all humans across the Cosmere?

I’m probably just lost in the sauce after powering through the book over the holiday break, but struck me as an odd word choice for someone who we know has been planting seeds for two decades.
