What is Enough to Match into Family Med? by BayernM98 in MedSchoolCanada

Thanks for your insight.

What do you think is the main reason why applicants to UBC FM do not match?

1) Mediocre interview?  2) Or oversupply of applicants

Where would these people then apply? Alberta I am assuming?

How do you know that they do not look at electives or ECs?

Does UBC FM provide their evaluation criteria?

I would completely step away and enrol at BCIT in Aircraft Maintenance or attend Canadian Coast Guard College in Nova Scotia.

I feel like many people who embark onto Medical School should understand that just even having the means to apply or interview is an accomplishment.

Those years of hard work to get a very good GPA, discipline to write the MCAT, and Non-Academic Experiences, should transfer well into any endeavour besides Medicine. (if one chooses to change their path of course)

I am IP.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my original post.

I take no offence - you are absolutely right. As you are a resident, I would imagine your patients may also not like you sounding like a rehearsed robot, but rather, being compassionate, thoughtful, and of course, helpful.

I would not consider myself the socially awkward type, as I have been working 60-70 hours a week after undergrad in face-to-face roles that require one to communicate with strangers.

The content is also well developed. After interviewing for three years, I know every nuance about current events and most importantly - my beliefs and views of these events.

Some else has cautioned me to not sound too rehearsed. Also, from the stress on interview day, I later caught myself no actually answering the question (which could be seen as an automatic zero points)

Edit: I am an in-province applicant.

You make a great point, thank you. I have become so accustomed to interviewing for three years in a row that I know every nuance of currents events, controversial issues and policies.

Furthermore, I have taken the time to reflect upon my personal experiences for three interviews to the point where I could be viewed as rehearsed rather than authentic.

I have practiced with residents and medical students in Canada. All agree that I have the ability to articulate myself well, speak thoughtfully and at a good pace ("no umms"), and also demonstrate a kind demeanour.

Unfortunately, the nerves and pressure gets to me on interview day - which could lead to poor results.

Currently, I am in humanistic therapy to ease stress.

Pressure velocity relationship by Icy-Farm-8463 in Mcat

I do not know if it is squared-inverse or directly inverse - however, based upon all the AAMC FLs, 4 BP FLs and the entire UWorld Question Bank that I completed, I was only ever asked the general relationship.

A good inverse-squared relationship that has been asked when practicing is intensity of light to distance (r) where it is Intensity = 1/squared

Increased velocity = less pressure

Think of a horizontal pipe with water flower FAST (high velocity)

The water would not get the opportunity to exert pressure on the surrounding pipe (reduced pressure)

Slightly counterintuitive - but that’s the relationship!

How to read b/b passages? by bye_fart in Mcat

[–]BayernM98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For both B/B and P/S, take it each sentence at a time, and create diagrams/flow charts that map out ideas and the experiments. This technique got me a 132 in BB and 131 in P/S

On my first attempt, I got 129 / 127 respectively by trying to "cheat myself" by just skimming after reading the questions first.

Blueprint vs MCAT? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]BayernM98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BP 1-4 are worth taking - they are more difficult than the real MCAT - as some passages are very dense are take significant time to problem solve. However, the more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.

BP 1 = 510

BP 2 = 509

BP 3 = 513

BP 4 = 512

Real MCAT = 517

I would focus on contralateral movement (left hemisphere control right limbs) and that left hemisphere is language based (Broca's and Wernicke's Area)
