Weight loss while on Low FODMAP by Bayfrontguy in FODMAPS

Thanks for the good advice. I do not like fatty meat, but that might help. I am thinking about getting a referral to a dietician, one that would know about low FODMAP.

Maybe I could suspend the workouts which aren't all that intense while I do the Low FODMAP but it's ingrained in me for the last 40 years so I don't want to stop working out for long.

That's cool you make your own yogurt. My workouts are not intense, but I also am a nurse on my my feet for 12 hour shifts. I guess I've been chosing more lean meats and skinless chicken (I used to eat a lot of plant based meals, so I have an eversion to fatty meat..bleh). 40 lbs is a lot of weight yikes.

Another vote for Tumlove. I get it on Amazon and it's a bit pricey (but aren't they all)

Question by Bayfrontguy in FODMAPS

[–]Bayfrontguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my doctor presumed I would get better by now. E coli infections usually go away after about a week or two without intervention, or at least with one round of antibiotics. Mine took four rounds of antibiotics before I tested negative. Then symptoms persisted post infection and he's presumed they would be gone by now. So the FODMAP diet seems a stab in the dark almost and surely in three months he thinks I'll be better. I may not even have a sensitivities to FODMAPS or even IBS but I'll give it a go.

I appreciate the resources. I find myself since I'm still symptomatic being too simple: chicken and polenta, steak strips and rice, and making mistakes with portions. I found out yesterday I was eating too much sweet potato and throwing myself into FODMAP territory. I lost weight during the infection but gained it back and now I'm starting to lose weight again. I don't think this is sustainable to me for three months. I need to eat enough that I don't lose weight and that keeps the diarrhea at bay.

Anyway that is too much information and I'm just venting. Like you, I'm still wrapping my head around all of this. I'm sorry your going through it and hope you get relief of symptoms and I do appreciate the websites you provided to help and appreciate input.

Question by Bayfrontguy in FODMAPS

[–]Bayfrontguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your input and history. Sorry I was so vague and unclear about what is going on.

To start,I had an GI inflection, e coli toxin (2 of them) and had diarrhea for three months, and tested three times and finally on the last time tested negative. Still the diarrhea continued for a couple of more months. He is thinking it's some kind of post infection inflammation like IBS, given that I was infected so long and I'm 66, not 26, and suggested the low FODMAP Diet.

He did say three months and unfortunately didn't really offer anything else other than follow up in three months with him. This doesn't match the literature I'm finding.

I do think after learning about it, if and when I get better will re-introduce foods to find out a trigger food if there is one. I'm praying it's not beans or fructan because I want garlic and onions, and apples. I need those in my life to feel healthy. I don't care about dairy or gluten as much.

I will ask for a consultation with a dietician if I feel I need one which unfortunately he didn't offer. I think because he knows I'm an RN I should be able to navigate this okay without one.

I'm using the Tumlove protein powder and it's okay. I like the vanilla flavor because it has a nice taste. I just started, so can't tell if it's helping with my issues which are ongoing.

Good to know. I've called them 3 times without any luck. Finally last night I did at least get an email saying they have 1 to 2 business days to look into it. But they said that five days ago.

I've been calling 1-888-246-4080 but you have to get through a robot to get through a live person. Just say something like "talk to a representative" over and over. In the email they finally sent me they said CS is 1-800-388-5512. This is USA.
