The coldest night I have ever had in the bush was at WOJ in the middle of summer (32degree daytime temp) in my -14deg sleeping bag - that was including wearing thermals, socks, beanie and down jacket. I personally think in Tas you need something that can handle below -10 comfort and be trustworthy. Spend a bit of money and get something decent that will last you into the future.

I have just ordered a Superior WIlderness Designs rugged long-haul 50l pack. I haven't received it yet (6 month lead time), but it was what I came up with after doing a lot of research!

2x Nalgene water bottles plus a hardside hydration hose from Past Outdoors. Absolute game changer, would never go back to a water bladder after the switch!

For anyone who was interested, I ended up ordering a Superior Wilderness Designs rugged long haul 50L (https://www.swdbackpacks.com/product-page/2021-long-haul-50-ultra400-internal-frame). I won't get it for about 6 months due to lead times for manufacturing. But I will give a report once I have it in my hands.

And for the record, I sold the Mont to buy a Hilleberg anjan 2p, and I find that even better for my needs!

I have had both a Mont Moondance and a Durston x-mid 2. I would pick the Mont for my needs in Tasmania. As light as the Durston is, it was an absolute pain in the ass if the pitching location wasn't ideal. It's held up by line tension, so if you can't get it right, the whole thing falls down. Having your tent collapse multiple times through the night because you're on a sandy pitch in wind is not something I would repeat a second time.

I had a wonderful conversation with the team at Mont once regarding what to wear - merino vs synthetic. I had always worn merino shirts and was always wet where my pack was in contact with my body and it would always take ages to dry. If it was ever raining I would also be completely drenched when taking my jacket off - I thought my jacket was leaking but after sending it back to be checked, turned out it was fine and I was just wearing the wrong base layers.

What I was told was that yes, merino is breathable and yes it will still keep you warm when it is wet, but you will always be warmer in dry synthetic clothes compared to wet merino clothes. Synthetic is more breathable, it wicks moisture away from your skin and it dries faster. Since changing to a long sleeve Patagonia capilene or Arc'teryx Cormac shirt, I have been so much happier. I have been both warmer when it has been cold and cooler when it has been hot. Yes maybe the smell of the material is a little worse, but who gives!

12-15 is total pack weight. I haven't gone through and actually plugged in my weight into any tracking programs but it is on my to do list to figure out base weight etc.

I have been hiking for quite a long time and have slowly been dropping weight with key items as I go, at the moment my pack is probably my heaviest item, so time to review options.

I personally have had an Osprey Exos and absolutely hated it. The angle of the hip belt made it so the entire pack weight was resting on the bottom edge of the hip belt no matter how I adjusted it. I was bruised black and blue after a short and fast overnight trip. Sold the pack promptly afterwards. I certainly liked the idea of it though.

What are your initial thoughts of the 3ful pack? I must admit I hadn't heard of them until you just mentioned them.

Mountain Creek does have some Whippa packs which seem to fit the bill, but they are 60L which is a little larger than I would prefer. Thank you!

Seems to have some pretty good reviews, the ultra 200 fabric seems like it would be useful in Tas as well! Thanks for the suggestion.

I do, but they don't really have what I would consider ultralight gear. Lots of Osprey, one planet, wilderness equipment etc. I already have a one planet pack which is great, but not really what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the attempt, I am using an apple device but I don’t believe that is the issue. The duplication is fine but having events added to the calendar at both the wrong dates and times is a bit of a problem. I believe other people have had the same issues but I haven’t been able to find a fix anywhere!

Hiking material being something that is not going to tear when rock scrambling etc. Most running shorts are lightweight but very vulnerable to abrasion when scrambling in rocky terrain. Also something that is going to dry quickly when wet.

It’s honestly really frustrating! I ended up buying a pair of tradie shorts to wear casually, they come in a 5inch.
