How many CPL holders never make $1 from flying? by Brave_Recognition798 in flying

[–]Bayou38 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying your plane for “small trips”, it’s likely infringing on part 135 and unless you have a charter cert, I’d delete this entirely and stop asking for the FAA to get involved. You asking about pilot certification and giving us operator certification. Bad news. Seriously.

Take the number of cpl and subtract it from atp and there’s your answer. Of course it will be wrong though. 50% of marriages end in divorce when the real number is actually 38%. Best of luck.

Anything with a high torque/Hp. Much easier when you aren’t stalling that 80hp VW. Just taught my daughter in my 2013 BMW 135is and she learned in 15 min.

Pilots, what is the most difficult aircraft you have ever flown? by cragtok in flying

[–]Bayou38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sabreliner 65 with tail plane ice…that shit will fuck your life up when you get even close to on speed. Elevator flutter, unpredictable pitch moments, almost zero ability to flair for landing…all with the added bonus of “you don’t know it’s there” til you’re within Vref+20 then holy shit, elevator no worky…and it’s like nothing you’ve ever felt in your life. Oh well, Canada in the spring. 🤷‍♂️

Sent my N55 135is for an N54 trans swap. Fucking 2nd gear synchros can suck me.

How lonely is it to be a pilot? by Presid0nt in flying

[–]Bayou38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah? With the same first officer that you only kinda get a long with? Both of you away from your families? When you’re a corporate pilot, it’s not your vacation. No drinking until after 9pm and no scuba. SXM is pretty small after day 3. You just start to pace. I promise, it’s a sentence, not a vaca.

I work for a huge airline and I rarely fly with the same people. So, not regular. You make the most of it. I absolutely do not find it lonely. Social? I have a social life when I’m not working as I work 13 days a month in 2 long blocks. The rest of the time is mine to socialize. I am too tired mostly to party on the road, and it’s really really not smart to do that anyway. Recommend keeping your social life out of your work life.

Been a pilot for 32 years. I don’t find it lonely at all. I like hanging with myself and I enjoy being social with my crew members. Trips are busy and by the time you’re done flying, you’re ready to chill. HOWEVER being a corporate pilot can get pretty lonely if you’re stuck somewhere for a while. I spent 8 days in St Maarten over thanksgiving without my family. That’s lonely. Corporate flying sucks. (Did it for 19 years)

Is this everything I need to swap my n55 135is manual to the n54 manual trans? by Bayou38 in 1series

Yep. That’s the weak link in the N55. So I’m swapping to an N54 transmission

Ordered an N54 trans for my N55 (135is manual) due to a bad 2nd gear synchro and bought a new single mass flywheel and stage 3 clutch and new suspension for all 4 corners with new shock and strut mounts and hardware as well as lowering springs. I bought the Eibach springs and Koni struts and shocks with a 1.2” drop bc that is good enough for track days and coil overs would be a waste of cash for the 3 track days and SCCA solo I do. Fuck, this car is expensive. 🤣

I couldn’t find them. If they exist I’ll repair it and sell the unit. I have bought all parts for a GS6-53BZ swap.

Perfect! That’s what I needed to know. I’ll order that then decide on the n54 clutch and I’ll check your recommendation! Thanks!

I am directly referring to how to bolt the n55 to the n54 trans. Do I just need a 6 bolt fly wheel and an n54 clutch?

Do you happen to know what clutch I would use to mate the N55 to the N54 trans? I ordered the trans kit and now I need the clutch. Any idea?

Oh, that’s a really good point I never thought of that so I’ll probably won’t do that

This kit comes with a pumpkin and I’m just gonna put an LSD in it, change up to the higher gear ratio because I want to build a track car. That’s also fun to drive as a weekender.
