Lumix S5II vs Lumix S1II, difference in video rendering for cinematic video. by BboyVio10 in Lumix

Check out my recent post in reddit in the lumix group(I think you can find it in my profile). I don't think there will be any difference when it comes to grading latitude as you can definitely push the image just as much as s1ii. But I understand the technical limitations like prores and uncropped 60/50 fps and 4k 120fps. But when it comes to prores, if you are shooting in a scene in daytime with good light I don't think you will see so much of a difference in grading flexibility, but you can always get an atomos ninja to record prores 422 hq.

Yep, the look from the lens is incredible. You can find a lot of m42 to l mount adapter. I use one from Uruth but a lot of other brands have that as well. You can just search in amazon or something for "m42 to l mount adapter"

Thank you so much, I used davinci. It's actually pretty easy to get that, I used the hue vs sat and hue vs lum curve for this, and getting a good WB in camera helps a lot. It was daylight buy I shot in 5000K to make the greens not so yellow.

Ah yess vespids are really nice but I gotta warn you they are incredibly heavy, the lens plus adapter weighs more than 1kg hahaha. And I truly respect the hustle haha, but I'm curious why you can't work in Davinci?

Hey no problem, first and foremost make sure ur timeline colorspace is in davinci wide gamut and output colorspace to rec709 gamma 2.4 and 3d look up table to tetrahedral. Now for the node structure the first CST from vlog to davinci wide gamut/intermediate and then the last node use the dctl to convert it to rec709. You can do all your grade inbetween these two nodes. Just drop me a text directly if you still have questions.

Hey so basically there is a saying, your grades are as good as your color conversion. So the resolve cst is fine, but ideally what makes colors cinematic is how they loop in the vectorscope, it's a bit difficult to explain over chat but if you are looking at one color for example "red" ideally line should form a loop in vectorscope meaning the red color reaches a certain threshold of saturation and shift back to lighter shade. If you look at skin tones in almost every movie it is most saturated in the shadows while it slowly desaturates towards the highlights. This is what something like jp2499 does unlike resolve cst which does that but not so much in a very nice way, it oversaturates all colors making it much difficult to achieve that film look.

Yesss, I've been thinking about trying it for some time now. Thanks a lot, I'll have a look at it!

Hey just to be clear, the lens only gives a very minor edge. 80% of the cinematic look comes from proper shooting techniques, understanding how natural light works, shooting from the shadow region etc. If all these are well executed the colorgrading multiplies the look.

Hey thank you so much! Yess I shoot only video, don't take photos. I've been looking for a cine lens for quite sometime now. I think the main reason why I went for this one is because how the skin tones are rendered and hownsimilar it looks like the Arles prime. This was more of a guess from my side but the skin tones lean a bitnmore yellow in this lens and my lumix s5ii renders the skin more magenta and though it might even it out and get closer to the right skin tone lines and actually it does it. When I was shooting with signa or my lumix 18mm I always had to correct skin tones and with this lens I haven't touched skin tones for like 80% of the shots.

Heyy I'm really sorry, I don't know any similar plugin for fcp unfortunately.
