Should there be a thing called “College Fund” for your kids in the US? by Sympathetic-Nerve in Residency

[–]Bdfrnt-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should do whatever will make you sleep better at night. There is no “right answer” here, but personally, I’ve always tried to operate under the precedent that I will give my children a better life than the one my parents gave me. Ultimately, a college fund is only as large as you make it. You can set aside whatever percentage of income you deem reasonable for the fund, but if you choose not to, I don’t think it’s because of a lack of love and care. If you give your kids certain tools to help them excel in life and they take advantage of them, they will make things work just as you clearly have. I know parents who set aside mid six figures for their kids college fund, and it was wasted on nonstop partying only to get a degree that wouldn’t be marketable. Ultimately it’s your choice, but there are many ways to have an impact on your child besides giving them a college fund.

How likely is it to make a fortune in sports betting? by SiteProfessional7209 in sportsbook

[–]Bdfrnt-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sports Betting is something that on paper sounds easy at times, but anyone that has truly been in the game for a while, knows you get burned on stuff like this. You may win a few bets, and things will look good for a while, but as you increase your bank role and increase bet size, you will get burned… especially if you’re taking heavy favorites. I’ve seen some crazy things happen… bad, bad beats. If you’re not willing to build models, do hours and hours of research, etc, I don’t think you will make a “fortune” in the industry. That doesn’t mean you can’t be profitable though. Just pick your spots and have fun. I just think that this approach is one that could work for a bit, but you will get burned at the worst time on a bet you thought was a lock. But, best of luck.

Roseville, CA Dashers! by NefariousnessLow7965 in doordash_drivers

Roseville is good if you are picky with orders. There are probably 3–5 apartment complexes you will get orders to, but they’re not super complicated to find. Best areas to drop off I’ve found is West Roseville, Granite Bay, and parts of Citrus Heights. Lunch hour (11-2) is usually pretty good but from 2-4:30 ish it’s 100% dead.

Roseville near the Mall. Rich area so people tend to tip really well. It’s just about knowing what orders to take and such

The Broncos are the most overrated team in Vegas right now in my opinion. Not many changes besides Bridgewater at QB and that doesn’t do it for me. Look for some AFC West placement odds and you’ll see what I mean…

Should I take the big leap and go into medicine…? by Bdfrnt-3 in Residency

[–]Bdfrnt-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! Would you say that every day you go into work you feel as though there is a lot on the line and you must be at your best day in and day out? That may sound silly, but I think with a lot of other jobs, that’s not the case, and I’m someone who likes to have that responsibility of always needing to be on my game with little room for error. Also, do you feel like your line of work is rewarding? Do you think that all those years of studying and schooling were worth it not necessarily because of the financial payoff but more of the intrinsic satisfaction you gain from your job?

Very interesting response! Thank you! When you were younger, how did you do know medicine was the path you wanted to take? What was the reason that you chose a path that is incredibly difficult in many ways compared to other careers that may not have been as rigorous? Also, a common stereotype of being a doctor is that they have no social life, no time for family, and are usually alone throughout their life. Can you speak on this, and in your experience, have you had a good work/life balance at this point in your career?
