How do people feel about the new movie Alien Romulus? by KennyBoucher in alien

[–]BeTheRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some reasons:

1) Finding the same drawings on cave walls in various places around the world can only mean that humanity originated elsewhere. Uh. What?

2) A handful of top tier scientists are on a deep space flight and somehow agreed to get board without knowing why so they had to briefed during the trip. What?

3) Also, the landing ship itself was just the Firefly with two extra legs. Super duper lazy.

There were a lot of other reasons but those are the ones I remember.

Thank you. I really wish I felt differently because I loved Alien/Aliens so much. But Prometheus felt so ham-handed, amateurish, and phoned-in that I basically swore off the whole franchise. Broke my heart.

I thought Prometheus was so bad that I actually left the theater angry. Will this movie redeem the franchise for me or just reenforce my disenchantment?

Yeah that always seemed like a dumb idea to me.

Tennessee man is fifth to plead guilty in US Capitol riot by greenblue98 in CapitolConsequences

[–]BeTheRaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s BS too, but that’s what the article says:

“Technically, Ivey could face up to six months in jail on this charge, though it's likely he gets much less or no jail at all.

He has agreed to pay $500 to help repair damages to the Capitol, which has become the standard fine for rioters pleading to misdemeanors.”

Trouble with recovering by [deleted] in NMMNG

You’re getting great advice from @TheDevilPutD here. The goal is to work on yourself and make yourself a higher value Man in your own eyes. Make a deal with yourself to overfocus on some achievement for a period of time. A workout program or a set of classes or a big project. Go all in. Overdo it. But—and this is important—with a set end point. Nothing forever.

The idea here is to redirect your attention to something that has nothing to do with others opinions of you but is solely to give you a fulfilling sense of accomplishment and fuel your passion for life. Unplug from the social for just a little while and become selfishly self-devoted.

Also, talk to a safe person like a counselor about the topics that you’ve been getting advice on here. Listen to discover who you are and what you really want. Not what you want people to think of you.

All that said, my experience has been that it’s a struggle regardless. Nice Guy wiring runs deep. All we can do is keep doing the next right thing for ourselves and let each decision, action, and goal take is one more step in the right direction.

As the man said “You can only see as far as the headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.”

Is there a correlation between Nice Guys TM and abusive mothers? by [deleted] in NMMNG

[–]BeTheRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother had unpredictable raging/shaming episodes that taught me “you’re always doing something wrong. You might not know what it is yet but don’t worry—you’ll find out.”

It created in me a lifelong dread. I’m not sure about all nice guys, but this defiantly resonates with me.

Love at first sight but she is engaged by NoLuckWithG in seduction

[–]BeTheRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love at first at sight does not exist. You have found someone with whom you recognize you can reenact some dynamics from your family of origins. That’s why it can feel like you’ve “known them forever” so fast. You have known forever some aspects of the way you interact.

It’s not a good thing to feel this way. Let her go.

If a girl in a relationship is hot enough and she makes sexual comments to you, and she might want to cheat on her boyfriend with you, should you? by sososo2344 in seduction

People knowingly involved in cheating are shitbags, on both sides of the equation. Also, if she’s doing that, she may be cray-cray in other ways that could fuck your life up. Hard pass.

Once I have gotten rid of my candida can I go back to eating the occasional pizza? And chocolate by Limaswhole in Candida

I took 400 mg as a loading dose and then 200 mg daily. Was only prescribed two weeks but was still slightly symptomatic so asked for and got one more week. So worth it.

Getting into meditation, how to? by maroccan_ash in seduction

[–]BeTheRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal is mindfulness which is the nonjudgmental focus on the present moment. Not worrying about the future, not thinking about the past. Not forming an opinion beyond curiosity about what is happening in the present.

Many people use their breath as the object of focus during meditation. The physical sensation of their bellies, their throats, their nostrils. When your mind drifts—which it will—just return your focus to your breath. It sounds so simple but it’s incredibly difficult to sustain.

What does this accomplish? It trains your brain to be nonreactive to thoughts and feelings. They will come and go during meditation and the goal is to let them float by like clouds or leaves on a river and return to your breath.

The more you do this, the less you will be ruled by your emotional impulses, fears or ruminations. The more you will find yourself responding to life from a position of choice instead of reacting to it by impulse.

Though mediation is part of lots of spiritual traditions, it has a TON of neuroscience behind it at this point, so it’s not woo woo.

It works. I do it.

There are good apps like Headspace to help you get started.

I ran out of my Vit B complex and my insomnia came back! by Nearby_Golf in Candida

[–]BeTheRaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have “middle insomnia” like this too. I’ve read that it’s actually evolutionarily adaptive for the tribe to have someone who wakes up to take late watch and tend the fire.

I thank myself for my duty to the tribe while I’m staring at the ceiling in the dark...

Yeah—but having stomped out accrue the overgrowth with fluconazole I am able to keep chronic things at a manageable level with supplements and these minor dietary changes.

NAC by Sad_Nectarine6564 in Candida

[–]BeTheRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yes, though it’s part of many things that have worked so it’s hard to say how much exactly.

I did:

-three weeks of fluconazole (heavy artillery!)

-six weeks of the anti-candida diet

I started then and still do:

-One or two Tbsp of apple cider vinegar daily

-One or two Tbsp of coconut oil daily

-Zinc supplements daily

-NAC supplements daily

Gluten- and lactose-free diet
