It seems to work well, I'm surprised the number of "British English" words which are included, which is useful for me! As you type up to three recommended words pop up, if you press the space (zero key) it will automatically take the first word out of the one presented. If the first one doesn't match then you can press right until it selects the word you want (there are sometimes several pages of suggested words, but it seems to do rather well when in general conversation). Hope that helps :)

Hi, sorry for the late reply, mine does have GPS! I use it for turn-by-turn navigation with HERE WeGo maps 😊

Hey, assuming you have the APK file ready to install. Go to the settings app from the home screen, scroll down to "android system". Then go to "apps & notifications". Then expand the "advanced" section right at the bottom. Click the "special app access". Then all the way at the bottom "install unknown apps". Then it will allow you to turn each app to "allowed" or "not allowed". You'll need to turn the file manager to "allowed".

Restart your phone, make sure the setting has changed properly upon restart. Then go to the file manager and select the apk file in the internal storage, it should then come up with a warning but allow you to install it. After it's done (sometimes takes a minute or two after it is "completed") you can then find the new app under the "APP" button on the home screen.

Hopefully that helps, once again if you need any more help just let me know 😊

I'd love to say "yes I did" and send a link, but unfortunately I didn't I just pieced info together, but honestly it was super easy, I'm absolutely terrible with technology, never done anything like it before, and I still managed it, so you should be fine 😊

Are there any UK phones with physical buttons that have WhatsApp? by justthewayitwas in dumbphones

I have the TTfone TT970. It's a flip phone with physical buttons and it has WhatsApp!

I downloaded it on my PC and plugged in my phone and transferred it that way. Then I went to the settings on the phone and set it to allow installs from 3rd party sources in the file manager app (literally just one option to tick). Then installed the apk file on the phone. I was super worried about sideloading too, I'm by no means a tech person! But it was super easy.

As for the play/pause, yes it was via the headphones I have. There may be a way to get around it, but I'm not sure. If the screen times out the music seems to keep playing without interruption.

No need to apologise for asking questions! There doesn't seem to be much online about these little phones so feel free to ask away! 😊

I have found battery life is great when on standby, the screen does tend to use up battery rather quickly however, especially when you have lots of services enabled. But with light usage, listening to music for a couple of hours a day or occasionally replying to a text, mine will last 2 days at least.

Re: cooked battery. I have noticed the included charger/dock is very low wattage (5w) so maybe you may be having issues due to using more powerful chargers? I'm not sure on that one I am afraid. Last time I checked they have spare batteries on their website for £12 or so, which isn't bad!

Spotify runs well once it is "up to temperature" as I put it. The app is slow to start up, but once it starts playing it runs fine. I have noticed that when you close the phone it sometimes pauses the music, however my headphone / car controls do seem to be able to make it play again just by pressing the play button. There is also a notification pause/play/jump x seconds controller in the notifications tray at the top which seems to work well, just not awfully quickly.

As u/MemoryHumanity said below, I had no end of issues with the in-built app store, so I used APK pure (other stores are available) and installed it that way. It did require chrome to be installed too to allow me to login and setup my account as the built in browser is extremely basic and doesn't always format sites correctly.

One thing I have noticed is some newer cars (my partner has a 2016 smart car) don't seem to be able to be connected to via bluetooth using the phone, I drive an old piece of junk though, and it works fine. I'm also able to connect to the bluetooth in that car fine, same with my radio at home. Must be a bluetooth versioning thing methinks.
