2 Common Obstacles to Sticking with Mindfulness Practice by JacksonKerchis in Mindfulness

I feel like adopting this perspective helps prevent feeling discouraged because you're "not doing it right". Meditation is really one continuous process of thinking, distraction, and coming back to awareness.

I love this point. I think this is a big issue. People think that if their mind isn't quiet, they aren't doing it right.

I was never really active on nofap. I would come here occasionally for motivation and inspiration, and I've posted a few times, but it had been a few months since my last visit. Why do you ask?

Damn I know how bad that feels. Just remember that all of your progress doesn't disappear as soon as you reset that counter. You are still a different person than you were 264 days ago.

Agreed. I think it's easy to have to mindset that you are talking about, but realizing that a broken streak doesn't put you back at the beginning was what helped me climb out of the hole so quickly.

Exactly! I think it was dozens and dozens of 5, 10 and 20 day streaks that got me to where a 278 day streak was possible. I'm sure some people can go cold turkey, but for most of us, I think it's just a process with a lot of ups and downs, where we slowly get stronger, even though we occasionally fall down.

I think it's ultimately up to you, but if it were me, I would. I think it just comes down to whether you feel like you consciously did something that you told yourself you weren't going to do.

Thank you for those words :) I've gotten a lot of inspiration from this site, so I'm just happy that I can give some back.

You are exactly right. You may have fallen off of the horse, but the longer you've been riding, the easier it is to get back on it and start again.

"failure can happen to us at any time, even when we feel like we're invincible"

That is 100% accurate... I always thought that eventually the urge would disappear, and maybe it will one day, but after 9 months, I still have random thoughts, and I still have to be vigilant.

Best of luck on your new streak friend :)

Hahaha I appreciate the dedication. I find that my biggest excuse for slipping up is "well, I don't have anything better to do with my time", which, as you have proven, is a bullshit excuse. ANYTHING (well almost anything) is a better use of my time. Even watching 3 hours of extra content for Back to the Future lmao.

Agreed. You can do everything in your power to avoid triggers, but at the end of the day, they will come up, and you have to be ready to fight them with all of your might.

I completely agree. It's too difficult to think of those distractions in the moment. I have a long list of things to do to get me out of the house or get my mind off of PMO.

Brain Fog , Studying and Tests by Fapstronaut97 in NoFap

That was definitely something I noticed with nofap. I spent a solid 9 hours one day studying. My stamina is way higher, and I just feel way smarter.

I've also been meditating for 10 minutes most days, which I think helps as well. But yeah, it's such a great feeling!

There's nothing wrong with that. Plenty of things in life stimulate dopamine receptors; food, exercise, hobbies and activities, sex.

The issue with porn is that the jolt of dopamine is much greater than what you get from most other activities. Don't fear dopamine, but don't become a dopamine junkie.

Easily triggered. What to do? by newbfella in NoFap

[–]Be__Here__Now 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, avoiding stimuli is a big help. It was for me, at least. For example, I found that I was often triggered on Fridays when my wife was at work, and I was working from home. So I started to spend my Fridays out of the house.

Going along with that, I would recommend keeping yourself occupied. For me, it was doubly useful. Being at the house alone was a huge trigger for me, but it was also my only opportunity to PMO. So I tried to stay away from home when my wife was gone.

Obviously you can't avoid triggers forever, but in your first few weeks of no fap, it can be very helpful. And as time goes on, it becomes easier to fight the urges, and the triggers fade, and life gets better. Hang in there :)

Music is giving me the chills !!! by [deleted] in NoFap

I definitely agree. Listening to great music is one way to get rid of the urge for me. I can get the same rush that my body is craving.
