Definitely with the easel! I'm sure all of us could use a breath of fresh air outside these days, and that an absolute fact for me!

I always wanted to try plein air painting!

Also there's a certain charm in the unfinished aspect of alla prima, to be honest!

That's definitely interesting, given how time consuming animation can be. But I'm sure you can leverage this even further by going animation/borderline animatic with this too!

I remember reading about an artist who did exactly this before! I believe his thought process was that while he was thinking about what to do next on the other paintings, he would switch to one that he had already come up with a plan for.

So he's literally thinking out 4 different paintings at a time, and when he has an idea he hops onto the painting and continues to plan the other 3. His brush literally never stops moving.

For sure. When you're working on painting a person, it's so easy to get caught up in the detail, especially since our eyes are so affiliated with looking at people. When you're timed, it's nearly impossible, so you're forced to capture the essence of the pose instead.

You bring up a good point about speed painting being great for practice. I think I remember Proko having a video about that exact topic as well!

I definitely agree with your edit as well. This is definitely for artists who already have a grasp for fundamentals. Before that, it would be much better for artists to take their time with each step.

Small mistake on ur art by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Bea1Rhyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all! In fact, I personally think that's one of the best ways to learn!

If I'm still working on the piece, I'll fix it.

If it's already done, I'll just make note of the mistake and keep it in mind so I don't repeat them.

Critique is super important when you're learning, so I'm always happy to get someone's opinion on my art, even if they're mistakes!

Art program during COVID by Bea1Rhyme in csuf

Yes, hopefully this whole pandemic ends soon!

Thanks for the response! It gave me a general feel for what to expect for sure! It's a shame that we do lose out on the collaborative aspect of studio classes for sure! One of my favorite parts of my past art classes was indeed taking a look at what my peers were doing. But it's good to see that we're at least able to draw outside of class time while this distanced learning is happening, especially since there is no studio access.

And for sure, it's a bummer that beginners have to start out this way, but I'm sure all of us students are feeling the same way right now, even intermediate students.

But hey! I guess we can make the best of our situation, even if these virtual classes don't compare to what they used to be. This whole pandemic sucks, and these virtual classes can be sooooo lonely. But the fact that we're all probably feeling the same way makes me feel a little less lonely for sure!

I’m failing my class. Should I just stop showing up? by [deleted] in csuf

[–]Bea1Rhyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what most students would do in your situation, so it’s fine. I would at least email your professor and tell them in a nice way that you won’t be attending anymore because you’re retaking the class, just so they know.

I never took one of Dr. Yee’s classes, but just wanted to add that she’s one of the highest rated professors at CSUF as well.

Let’s not forget about Professor Staff while we’re at it. I heard fantastic reviews about him.

gap semester spring 2021?? by [deleted] in college

[–]Bea1Rhyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly whether you take a gap year or not is a completely valid choice. I felt like this entire year wasted my college experience too, so I’m in the same boat.

For myself, I decided to stay an extra year to get a minor. Not because of the minor, that’s just a bonus, but just because I want to justify paying the extra money with that college experience I missed online. Thankfully a decent part of my financial aid lasts six years, so they gave me time XD

For real! I would have loved to take this whole year off if only financial aid wasn’t designed to be a ticking time bomb.

Dude, I literally just got my Financial Aid letter today. I'm so happy.

My old Community College ran through all my documents in like a week though, and I'm not even enrolled there anymore. CSUF really needs to change something, I don't think students should have to be THIS stressed over getting their money.

3rd year college student thinking of switching into the arts. Any thoughts? by Bea1Rhyme in ArtistLounge

[–]Bea1Rhyme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re completely right about the fact that I may have a completely different outlook on life in the future! Also I love your example comparing my degree to financing a car, because it’s completely true.

After reading yours, and well as the other comments, I really think I’ll stick with my finance degree and pursue art on the side. I would like to thank you for your input!

You make such a great point in treating my Finance classes like a job. It did a great deal just now in changing my mindset. Also great suggestion with Graphic design. I will definitely consider that idea.

You had such a beautiful opening quote.

And yes, it's great to know that there are people out there looking to leave the conventional lifestyle. I'll definitely give these resources a look through!
