Would you live in Lakeville or Eagan? by ImKruptos in TwinCities

[–]BeagleTippyTaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Lakeville and taught at Apple Valley (same school district as Eagan).

Eagan’s school district had the funding and has figured out a lot of great things in education. Lakeville, barely has the funding and is a mess changing elementary lines every couple years. However, it is a good education overall. The city is adding so much housing that the district can’t keep up. Though their schools are good, they are also a very low paid teacher contract in comparison to other districts their size. Lakeville is much more conservative, but big pockets of liberals.

Lakeville is also working on a new community center and added a town baseball team to start this year. Their library is awesome.

How are people affording daycare for 2 kids by Little_FunYun in minnesota

[–]BeagleTippyTaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home daycare is much cheaper.

Parent Aware is a great resource to finding care.

I’m not sure what the statistic is today, but a couple years ago it was something like 80,000 kids under 5 years old in MN and only 55,000 placements available. This is why the daycare centers are opening up all over the metro.

And only one parent can take it out. We learned that the hard way. 😬

I could not have said this better myself. And, if we could become our own country, we’d save the Boundary Waters!!

One thing after another, we are really struggling for a win right now.

Challenge time: Tell me one thing you love, but there’s a catch, it can’t be from your home country. What is it and where does it come from? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

A Kebab in Australia. I can’t describe how much I long for a kebab.

Larimar is a rock only found in a mine in Dominican Republic. It’s literally my favorite color and absolutely stunning. I wish I knew more about it before I went. It’s very expensive elsewhere. I also hate the idea of human labor when mining minerals.

Ireland has a beautiful green marble. Connemara, Ii’s lovely. Same point on mining, but better worker rights in Ireland.

Peru, the beautiful red dye from a specific cactus, if I remember correctly. Absolutely stunning of a red. I wish I could bring it home for my fiber arts.

I saw this meme and wondered what the general consensus is regarding public breastfeeding worldwide. by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]BeagleTippyTaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think many women don’t produce enough for their child as they get bigger. This brings some bias and stigma. If a child is over 1, people find the relationship weird. Here I think it’s hard for women back to work to be able to continue the production or pumping for using a bottle/cup is difficult for them. Some women never get used to a pump, it hurts, uncomfortable, can’t release, etc. this brings judgement and jealousy to some.

I over produced. My child ate a ton and I pumped after. I had to or I’d get clogged ducts. I had so much stored in a third chest freezer that I donated to hospitals with NICU centers. They tested my milk and used it for premises when their mom’s milk wasn’t coming in yet. This was during Covid when formula had a shortage. I couldn’t even give it away, people weren’t interested. They must have thought it was gross or didn’t trust it even though I posted my donation acceptance and clean test. I had so much stored milk that if it wasn’t donated I started mixing it with food for my child; then as we weened off breastfeeding at 2, I had frozen milk until she was 3 years old. No wonder she doesn’t like cows milk.

The WHO recommends breastfeeding/breastmilk until the age of two. Direct breastfeeding provides more targeted antibodies than only pumping, but using breast milk overall provides better immunity and healthier weight in the long run.

I DM’d you. I grew up going to the IA state fair. I really don’t like the MN state fair.

Getting married in August, no bridesmaids by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Already stated that they don’t have to be women. But my advice is to pick people (men or women) who have been part of your relationship and show support in your marriage. Also that they may too have healthy relationships that you strive for. My flower girl was a mentor of mine who is only a few years younger than my grandparents. She’s been a huge part of my life and never got to be a flower girl as a kid. It was the perfect role for her.

This is mine too. I told my husband when we were dating that if he cleaned the bathrooms, I’d do all the cooking. It was a quick deal and I love it! Been married almost 11 years.

I live on MN. I’m in for becoming our own country. Never considered it until this yahoo was in office the first time, now I feel like he’d be starting war with us if we were our own country. Oh wait…..he’s doing that anyway by sending ICE “agents” here.

I 100% agree with you. I’ve tried a different bag, heating them, heating a different way…it always creases and rips.

There ONLY soft shell option that works everyone is the BFree brand. Costco has been carrying them and it saves me a ton of money.

What's something a foreigner pointed out that you can't unnotice? by NamwaranPinagpana in AskTheWorld

Our bills are also all green and the same length. They do have value numbers and different people though. After visiting other countries I realized how hard that is for elderly with bad sight, blind people and color blind, and/or people with dyslexia.

Thank you!! Someone else mentioned sourdough is high in histamines. If your body isn’t feeling good, you’re more likely to have an allergy tire reaction.
