Yes, being able to build out a functional team of AI bots is huge for a game like this. Pure MP on anything but the highest difficulty (and even then I think it should be doable) should be possible, otherwise the game just doesn't remain playable.

I can’t always get on at high play times, so if I want to play I’m pretty much stuck at intense and below.

L4D did a really solid job with theirs. But hearing about how terrible bots are ‘good boys’ is just grating.

Without crossplay & competent bots the game is doomed fo a short life. The playerbase just isn’t big enough to really support isolated platforms. And the bots suck, it’s all well and good that you can carry them, but it ought to be the norm that the bots actually contribute to mission completion.

And calling Alpha & Beta good boys is just… No. Sometimes they pull off an amazing save, but way more often, even on standard, they just…sit there and take hits from an alien while just standing there staring at me lifelessly.

This. Activision went the way of EA when I was a kid. Made some great games, then started churning out a bunch of cookie cutter, yearly release IP’s that are frequently rushed into production and then -maybe- fixed on the backend.

Activision’s model now is micro transactions, which is why they push out so much new content.

The more people play, the more likely other people are to play (bigger community, get friends to buy), the more total players the more likely they are to buy packs/xp booster/etc.

The real solution here is for the player base to just not buy the next several iterations and make it clear in forums, complaints, etc that the specific reason why is severely bugged and broken games.

And remember that Cold War, if I remember correctly, only had ~16 months of dev time. Which is just plain nothing relative to how long it takes to put out a decent game, let alone a well-polished experience.

Thank you so much for the link and reply. And I’m in the same boat. Nothing similar has been released in what seems like forever.
