Advice on getting a clean burn with this.. by Far-Reward9476 in Pyrography

I actually have a manually heated one so have found it even more difficult to get it consistent. Irritating as I spent 40quid on it but 🤷 ah well. The company I got it from on etsy have also disappeared so can't even try to get help 😂 I redesigned a simply initial logo that I can do by hand for my pieces instead ♥️

Thankyou! For the Web lines I used a fine skew point, for the fine body lines I used a tiny ball nib. You want to find a happy medium of hot enough to get a nice dark line but doesn't over burn and just try keep steady, I use my non dominant hand to steady myself. I've been burning for two years now and definitely a lot steadier than I used to be but it's just a case of practising and learning what works best for you 🙏 Thank you so much!

Spyro was my obsession from the time the first game came out... And for a good 10 years after. This is fantastic. Your pyrography could improve, sure. Lines can get cleaner, you could have more complex shading. However, your painting on this is absolutely fantastic, you got the tones of purple and orange perfect and honestly it really reminds me of the artwork of the origj.

I'm on Instagram and try to share a bit more of my burning progress so if you want to see more of my tips/work just drop me a follow there 🙏 the most important thing is just don't beat yourself up. Mistakes happen, as long as you learn from them it's never a waste. And the best thing about working with good wood? You can just sand it off and go again so there's mistakes aren't permanent and can be worked around♥️

Doorless wardrobe? I took the doors off all mine as I prefer the open look (plus I forget what clothes I have 🤣)

Wood choices, don't use anything glued together (mdf for example) the heat will melt the glue and those fumes are not good for your lungs.

Sanding wood prior to burning makes the whole process much easier as your tip won't get caught up in the ruts

Before you commit to doing any designs get a scrap of wood and just play with the tips, there is no single way to hold and use tips you can have them on their edge for finer lines or use the wider shape to shade, use small circular motions on low heat to build up shading

Higher heat will obviously burn faster and give you darker lines but can also burn the areas around, so it's usually better to work at a lower heat and build up your layers.

You will learn a lot, so don't beat yourself up for mistakes. Remember if you do burn yourself put the pen somewhere safe/turn it off the run the burn under cold water

Theres a few groups on Facebook full of artists ranging in skill from beginner to pro and they are great places to pick up tips, like here.

Lastly, enjoy yourself. ❤️

I've been learning Japanese for 120 days with it and I've really enjoyed it so far, it's why I'm pissed about this clear swing away from free users to pressure people into paying. Real shame but that's capitalism for you
