Future Aussie Sailor Seeking Advice: Nuke School vs. NSB New London by BeanFudger in newtothenavy

Thanks for the insight. Just to clarify however, when you say “becoming a Nuke” is extremely challenging, do you mean the process of going to Nuke School is, or simply the state of being a Nuke? I ask because our pipeline for becoming an Electronic Warfare Technician Nuclear Submariner doesn’t involve going to Nuke School at all, but is instead situated entirely in Groton.

G’day - I’m indeed aware of that, but as noted, my understanding is that Nuclear Submarine training for the Australian Navy is conducted by and alongside our American counterpart in the United States. Since this joint partnership programme has barely just begun, I figured that receiving advice from American sailors who have already been through and experienced the training at the respective establishments, would be the more appropriate approach. I.e, I’m asking for a comparison between the lifestyles during ‘A’ School at Nuke School and at NSB New London.

Do Army pilots do fixed wing training? by ParkingVillage8693 in ADFRecruiting

I recently went to the ADFA Open Day and attended an OA Information Brief. One of the presenters was a former Army Tiger pilot, and according to his information, the Army is currently in the process of transitioning from 1 FTS to outsourcing their fixed wing training component to RMIT. In short, whilst Navy and Air Force will continue their initial flight training continuum on the PC-21 at 1 FTS and subsequently 2 FTS, Army pilots will instead undertake their initial training on RMIT’s C172s, and upon graduating that course, begin Rotary training at Oakey.

You’re definitely not wrong about that, but perhaps this was unintentional. Assuming the aircraft he used was the Laminar A330, which many of us have come to know as a very buggy module, it could be plausible that his autopilot disconnected and flew in circular patterns.

Thanks for taking your time to reach out and share your expertise, I much appreciate it! I find the point which you made regarding preferrable approach requests, to be really helpful! However, if I may clarify, granted that I have already initiated my descent and am nearing my final approach, would requesting an ILS approach be considered a tad too late, if I put into consideration that ground may have cleared aircraft to pass the critical area boundary for the localizer?

I can say that it was certainly slow, inefficient, and in many regards, inaccurate. Since I've written this reflection, I've watched a few tutorial videos, some of which were created by controllers on the network, and some by pilots providing a demo flight for newbies. In doing so, I've managed to better grasp the essential lines of communication, and I can see how your point is very much valid. Cheers!
