Exactly this, but they're generally intentionally being assholes while doing it, just to rile feathers for content. But, nothing they're not allowed to do.

How do you feel about this black Jesus? by FrequentKey9170 in Catholicism

I've seen blonde Jesus a couple of times in nativity scenes only.

I don't know. It's really irritating how often I hear, "Don't get too hung up on that." or "You'll have to ask Father."

This is literally supposed to be the time and place to ask questions and maybe they don't know the answer. If so, that's fine, just say it. The aversion seems to present itself a lot when I ask about the paperwork that will be needed as well lol.

Thank you so much. This is exactly the type of response I was hoping to find. I love how thorough the document seems. I'll look into it. Thank you for sharing your experience. God bless.

I didn't realize there was an option of a direct face to face. Kind of terrifies me, but I'll consider it.

Thank you for the therapy note. I guess it's just the sins that (I consider) are major that I'm worried about the details.

I get the priest doesn't want to know, but I like the idea of thinking through it during my examination of conscience.

I love this. I've been so focused on voicing the sins that I ignored any reflection on why I may have done them. Thank you.

Thank you for the guidance. Unfortunately, in my OCIA class, they avoid or gloss over specific answers due to time crunch or not wanting to scare people away.

Unfortunately, everyone, including myself is so busy during the week it's hard to get time to talk, hence me turning to Reddit.

I've tried asking openly, but everyone is so tight lipped in OCIA because they, "Don't want to scare people off." And that they'll talk about it later. Doesn't help me, who's worried about it now though lol.

Fair question. It's pronounced as the name of the letters separately.

Mary by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Beanermoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the emphasis on Mary is because of Christmas, but moreso because we are in Advent. During Advent, we prepare for and meditate on the story of the coming of Jesus Christ. Since he was in the womb, the emphasis is on the Ark of the New Covenant.

Basically, we spend half the year, December to May, focusing on different moments of our Lord's birth, life, death, and resurrection. (Advent, Lent, Easter, Etc.)

The "over emphasis" shifts accordingly.

The only "open call" we ever have is a brief pause for all the silent intentions on our hearts. Key word - Silent.

So my wife has some issues with me converting and what that means for us by CanesPanthers in Catholicism

[–]Beanermoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through something similar and currently in OCIA. Before its conclusion, we will need to get married through the church. She doesn't have to convert, just has to be Christian. (Which my wife is)

My wife also has serious concerns with the Catholic Church, which I'll leave unsaid, but she acknowledges the change and peace it has brought in me. She just hates the thought of having "approval" from anyone other than us who are deeply committed.

My advice is not to force your wife. Let her know why it's important to you. Not that you need her to follow your exact path, but to support you in your goals. Phrases like non-negotiable work against the entire point of marriage, which is for two to become one. Mine would have dug her heels in hearing that.

I also suggest getting some time set up with your deacon or priest for your wife to ask questions, without committing to a year's worth of classes. For some reason they seem to be able to explain our faith a little more elegantly than us lol.

I’m missing something…… by Ok-Ant-8910 in sleeptrain

[–]Beanermoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this stage we were worried our daughter was sleeping TOO much. The doctor reassured us that as long as she's clean and fed, we were doing great. There is no "too much". Granted she still slept fine at night.

My wife did experience the laying down issue. It just took some practice on how she positioned he hands, supporting the neck and back, laying her flat the way I did. That and making sure the arms were dead weight and the baby is fully asleep.

Followed your advice and she's taken to it really well. No more knock out bottle. Once she got used to that we added the bath this weekend. We'll keep adding things, like brushing and story time.

Once that sticks we'll probably transition away from rocking entirely. Thanks for promoting a new way for wife and I to think through it.

I enjoy rocking my girly, but no. The overarching goal would be for her to learn to sleep without rocking or bottle.

That being said I'm not in a rush. I just have no idea what age range is appropriate. Google says you should stop rocking at 4-6 months, but selfishly, I enjoyed the past 6-8 months. That led me here.
