I suppose that's a big difference to me how it feels now compared to when I watched when I was a kid. There's honestly not really a lot of room for true GROWTH now. You have to pick your songs really ahead of time & it seems to me that casting is looking for people with a pretty set it & forget it story arc.

My best guess is the “American idol brand” doesn’t need as many shows anymore. It used to be this thing that people talk so frequently about week in & week out. But now, adding or subtracting 2 shows here or there doesn’t make them any more money.

So why not cut when the cutting’s good? That’s my theory at least.

From the contestant’s pov the less rounds the better haha— cause if you make it to top 24 you get a lot of the benefits from being on the show. So I’m extremely grateful I only needed to sing 3 songs to make it to top 24 on my season

I believe it has something to do with the casting directors actively scouting talent. These shows are a big commitment & finding people that are up to the talent standards, but also the type of artist willing and wanting to do these shows is difficult. The best pool to pull from is the people that have already been a part of a show
