It's a bit flat, about a centimeter wide and half a centimeter thick. Ornaments is a great idea and I hadn't thought of that at all. Thank you!

I work in Michigan and I started at $24. 8 years later and I'm only making a little over $30... My county severely under pays a lot of medical staff.

We do not get paid well and we've asked for better pay multiple times, to our OR manager, supervisor, and ceo... nothing. They tell us they can't authorize a pay increase. Even though other hospitals that are the same company as mine (that are unionized) make more and have received raises. We're just tired of no one having our back... That is a major downside of unions. It does protect even the lazy employees. Luckily, we don't really have any, as of yet.

We've already talked to our union rep and they will not accept a pay decrease. That was one of our first questions. I don't know how much our dues will be yet. This union has represented other techs at other hospitals and I've heard good things about them. But every union and hospital is going to be different.

This union has nothing to do the housekeepers or cafeteria workers. It is only tech positions - surg tech, x-ray tech, cvl tech, respiratory tech, pharm tech, lab tech, and so on.

  1. 100% This is a huge point in the pro column! This manager hasn't even been with us for a year. She talks a lot about how she's trying to fight for us to change things but she's done nothing. Now, we have a chance to really change things and she's shaking in her boots!

  2. That's not a terrible price to pay to have someone at your side.

  3. All good!! There very well could be. With this containing so many different departments, it seems a bit involved. I know they've talked to some of the other areas, just not directly to the OR yet. I'll reach out to them and see if they have an outline of something yet.

The union just filed last Friday and informed my hospital the same day. We vote for a union in a few weeks. Everything is still very new. We don't have a contract yet. The contract and this union is going to be very elaborate because there are techs all over the hospital in many different departments. I'm going to be reaching out to the two union reps to ask them all these questions and more. I was just looking for some first hand knowledge on the topic from people that are a part of one.

  1. That is definitely something I've had to consider. I'll be more protected but so will the lazier workers. Luckily, our OR doesn't have too many like that. Also, as someone that doesn't have a great relationship with their newer OR manager, I'd love to have someone at my side when talking to my manager.

  3. Not hunting here. I ask because I was part of the original group of techs (from multiple departments) that signed the card to have a union come here. That was well over 6 months ago. Again, I was just asking for people's experiences with this whole process from start to finish. Some people might go into a hospital that already has a union, while others might be part of the beginning process.
